Planning an event in Way?

Cook it yourself or book a caterer?

You can cook paella for a crowd yourself, but it takes practice. A big pan needs a burner that heats it evenly, and getting the rice right at scale is tricky. Our guide to cooking paella for a crowd explains how.

Not sure whether to cook yourself or book a caterer? Think about numbers, diets and how much you want to enjoy the day. Ask us for a quote and compare.

About our paella catering in Way

We arrive with the pans, burners and fresh ingredients and cook the paella in front of your guests. When it’s ready, it’s served straight from the pan. We’re often asked to cater weddings, from canapés to evening food and festivals, fairs and school events, serving paella Valenciana, black rice and vegan paella.

Somewhere as small as Way, a garden or field is often the venue. Tell us about narrow lanes or long drives and we’ll plan for them, and cooking close to where we can park helps. We cater for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests, with each paella cooked in its own pan.

If your event is in a public space, such as a park, check what permission you need first. We’ll provide any information the landowner or council asks for.

What we need at the venue

Live paella is cooked over gas burners in large pans, so the cooking area needs a little planning. Here’s what we look for:

  • Level ground for the pans and burners
  • A safe distance from anything that could catch
  • The venue’s permission for live cooking

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and we will say what we think.

Which station should guests use for Way?

Minster station, about 0.9 miles south-west of the centre.

Is Way close to London?

About 62 miles from central London.

Can you feed plenty of people?

Yes, that is what it’s made for. We plan the number of pans and serving points around your numbers.

Do you cover Way?

Yes. We cover London and the South East, including Way and the rest of Kent. For a quote, fill in our quote form.

Do you cook inside?

Indoors only where ventilation and the venue allow it. Most events have us cooking outside or in a doorway or courtyard.

Yes. Canapés with drinks or tapas for the tables, served while the paella cooks.

How long do you need on site?

Do you take everything away?

We take our equipment and leave the cooking area tidy. Table clearing is available with waiting staff.

The menu, dish by dish

Paella Valenciana

Paella Valenciana is the original: chicken, beans and saffron, rather than seafood. It’s a favourite with guests who don’t eat fish.

Seafood paella

A rich seafood stock with prawns, mussels and squid, finished with lemon wedges. It is normally the most photographed pan.

Dietary needs and planning tips

Every guest is catered for, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal included. To get it right:

  • Put allergy details in writing
  • Pick a mix of paellas to cover every diet
  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • Let us know if anyone has coeliac disease

A short rest after cooking helps, and that’s when we invite guests up.

Spanish desserts such as churros or crema catalana finish the meal.

What happens on the day

The paella is cooked in huge, shallow pans over gas burners. We need a level, ventilated spot, which we agree with you beforehand. Planning an evening event in Way? Sunset is around 8:45pm in late May, 9:15pm at midsummer and 7:00pm in late September; once it’s dark, we need light to cook and serve by.

  2. You get a menu and an itemised quote.
  3. We agree timings, access and the cooking spot.
