Live paella catering in Turnpike Lane

About our paella catering in Turnpike Lane

Paella is generous food: huge pans, saffron colour and a toasted crust that everyone fights over. It turns a meal into an occasion. On the menu are vegan paella, mixed paella and chicken and chorizo paella, and we’re frequently booked for community events and fairs and staff parties and work lunches.

Gardens in London can be narrow, which is fine for live paella as long as there’s a level spot clear of fences and trees. For an event in Turnpike Lane, tell us where we can park to unload. You’ll know exactly what’s included before you book: the menu, the staff and any extras, with no surprises on the day.

Why live cooking beats a buffet

Food trucks and street-food vans serve one portion at a time. A big pan serves many guests fast, which suits weddings and parties where everyone eats together. When you compare quotes, check what each one includes: staff, crockery, sides, travel and VAT. Our quotes spell it all out.

Why choose Love Paella in Turnpike Lane

  • Add tapas, canapés and Spanish desserts
  • Crockery and waiting staff if you need them
  • Hot food served quickly from the pan
  • Options for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests, each in its own pan

The process

The paella is cooked in giant, shallow pans over gas burners. We need a level, ventilated spot, which we agree with you beforehand. Around midsummer it stays light in Turnpike Lane until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening events are normally served in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.

  1. First, tell us about your event.
  2. We suggest paellas and extras and send a clear quote.
  3. Timings, access and the cooking area are agreed in advance.
  4. On the day, we set up and cook in front of your guests.
  5. We serve from the pan, then pack down.

What’s in the pans

Vegetable and vegan paella

A slow sofrito, seasonal vegetables and a good vegetable stock make a proper main dish. Vegan versions use plant-based stock.

Black rice

Black rice gets its colour from squid ink, and is usually served with alioli. It makes a dramatic second seafood pan.

DIY paella versus live catering

Hiring a pan and burner is one option, but you’ll still need to source ingredients, prep and cook for hours. A caterer handles all of that.

Some hosts like to cook themselves. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather be with your guests, we will do the cooking.

What paella catering costs

Two events with the same number of guests can cost different amounts, depending on:

  • How many courses
  • Your choice of paellas
  • How many staff you need
  • Crockery and cutlery, or disposables

Access and travel can make a difference to the cost, so it helps to tell us about your venue. Everything is confirmed in writing.

Details that help

For a quote, it helps to have:

  • Whether the venue has crockery or staff
  • Where the event is
  • A picture of the space, if you can
  • Whether you want canapés, tapas or desserts

The quickest way to a quote is to use our quote form. Tell us about your event in Turnpike Lane, and we will put together a menu and price.

Catering for every guest

We cater for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests. To get it right:

  • Request clear labels at the serving table
  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • Tell us how many children are coming
  • Plan seating for most guests: paella is easiest eaten sitting down

Paella is best eaten as soon as it is ready, so we serve when guests are ready.

Add canapé tapas with the drinks or table tapas as a starter as the rice cooks.

Our caterer checklist

For event organisers in Turnpike Lane

Common questions in Turnpike Lane

We’re having a ceremony at Church of St John The Baptist (greek Orthodox): can you cater afterwards?

Yes, at a garden, marquee or venue nearby with a suitable spot to cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is usually elsewhere. Send us the reception address.

Which station should guests use for Turnpike Lane?

Hornsey station, in Turnpike Lane itself.

Is it really cooked live?

Yes, always. Every paella is cooked from scratch on site, in front of your guests.

Do you provide drinks?

We can make sangria, and we can staff a bar with your drinks.

Can the paella be cooked in a hall?

Only in a suitable, well-ventilated area with the venue’s permission. Most events have us cooking outside or in a doorway or courtyard.

Can you serve tapas as well?

Yes, it is the classic pairing. Tapas go out first, then the paella.

How long do you need on site?

That depends on your menu and numbers. We agree the timings in advance.

What happens with live paella?

We set up a cooking area at your venue, cook the paella from scratch in large pans while your guests watch, and serve it straight from the pan.
