Paella catering in Greengate, cooked live

A couple of different pans covers everyone: a meat or mixed paella, a seafood paella and a vegetable or vegan one. Every pan is cooked on its own. We’re often asked to cater summer garden parties and festivals, fairs and school events, with paella Valenciana, mixed paella and vegetable paella.

London gardens are frequently long and narrow, which is fine for live paella as long as there is a level spot clear of fences and trees. In Greengate, the bigger question is parking near the house or venue. Everything is cooked from scratch at your event, not reheated.

Our caterer checklist

What paella catering costs

Every event is priced individually, based on a few main things:

  • Chicken, vegetable or premium seafood
  • Distance and access to the venue
  • Guest numbers
  • Plates, cutlery and glassware

Comparing caterers? Look at what each quote includes: staff, crockery, sides, travel and VAT. We itemise ours.

Details that help

You do not need everything decided to ask for a quote, but these help:

  • Expected numbers
  • A photo of the cooking space, if it’s a garden or field
  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • The address or venue name

Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many guests, plus any dietary needs, and you will get a menu idea and a price. Just fill in our quote form.

Organising for someone else?

For big numbers, we plan pans and serving points to keep queues short, so everyone eats promptly. Let us know how long the food break is.

Events in public spaces, like parks, typically need permission. We can send whatever the landowner or council needs from us.

Is live paella right for your event?

Cold buffets are easy but forgettable, and food can sit out for a while. Paella is cooked live and served hot. Tapas, desserts, sangria, staff and crockery are optional extras, so you can choose exactly what you need.

Why us?

  • We cover Greengate and the whole of Greater London
  • Served hot, straight from the pan
  • Separate pans for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests
  • Add tapas, canapés and Spanish desserts

Read Our prices page Or Our guide to catering costs.

Cook it yourself or book a caterer?

Cooking paella for a crowd yourself is possible, but it is harder than it looks. A big pan needs a burner that heats it evenly, and getting the rice right for dozens of people takes experience. Read how to cook paella for a crowd.

For a small group, cooking yourself can work well. For larger numbers, mixed diets or a wedding, a caterer takes the pressure off, and handles separate pans for each diet.

Diets, allergies and planning

Few dishes handle mixed diets as well as paella, because every paella has its own pan. A few tips:

  • Plan seating for most guests: paella is easiest eaten sitting down
  • Mention any other courses or food
  • Confirm allergies by email
  • Choose two or three paellas so every guest has a choice

Let the paella rest for a few minutes before serving, which is when we typically call guests over.

Spanish desserts such as churros or crema catalana finish the meal.

How the day works

Watching it cook is half the fun. We start with the sofrito, add the stock and saffron, then spread the rice across the pan and leave it alone to cook while your guests chat. Planning an evening event in Greengate? Sunset is around 8:50pm in late May, 9:20pm at midsummer and 7:05pm in late September; after dark, the cooking and serving areas need good lighting.

  1. We start with a few details about your event.
  2. We suggest paellas and extras and send a clear quote.
  3. Timings, access and the cooking area are agreed in advance.
  4. We cook live on the day while guests watch.
  5. We serve from the pan, then pack down.

How to prepare

Planning help

Before you choose a spot

Before the day, we’ll agree where we cook. A good spot ticks these boxes:

  • Agreement from the venue or landowner to cook on site
  • Open air or a well-ventilated covered spot
  • Somewhere close to park and unload

As a London location, Greengate is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and parking takes planning: let us know about permits, bays or off-street parking.

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Menu ideas
