Paella catering in Elephant and Castle

Can I cook paella for a crowd myself?

Cooking paella for a crowd yourself is possible, but it is harder than it looks. Large pans need the right burners, and getting the rice right at scale is tricky. Read how to cook paella for a crowd.

Plenty of people try cooking paella for their own party. Common mistakes are mismatched pans and burners, overfilling and stirring. If you’d rather enjoy the party, let us cook.

Paella catering in Elephant and Castle, cooked live

The cooking is half the fun. Guests gather round as the sofrito sizzles and the saffron colours the rice, and the smell does the rest. For anniversaries and engagement parties and birthday celebrations, we can cook mixed paella, seafood paella and black rice.

We cater across London and the South East, Greater London included. See all areas.

Which paellas suit our guests?

That depends on who’s coming. Chicken and mixed paellas tend to go first, with seafood and vegetable pans alongside.

Can the paella be cooked in a hall?

Indoors only where ventilation and the venue allow it. Most events have us cooking outside or in a doorway or courtyard.

Paella compared with other options

Plated meals need a kitchen and a bigger team. Live paella needs a level, ventilated spot and the venue’s permission to cook, and gives guests something to watch. Extras such as tapas, desserts, sangria, staff and crockery are priced separately, so you only pay for what you want.

What you get with us

  • Tapas, canapés and desserts if you want them

What’s in the pans

Seafood paella

Seafood paella starts with a good fish and shellfish stock. The shellfish is added late so it stays tender.

Paella Valenciana

The original paella from Valencia is a countryside dish of chicken and vegetables, rather than seafood. It’s often the most popular pan at an event.

What happens on the day

When we arrive, we set up the burners and pans and start cooking the sofrito and stock. Once the rice goes in, it takes about 20 minutes, so we time everything to your schedule. Around midsummer it stays light in Elephant and Castle until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. For winter events, when it is dark by about 3:55pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.

  1. Get in touch with the basics: when, where and how many.
  2. Expect a menu idea and a clear, itemised price.
  3. Closer to the day, we confirm timings and the cooking spot.
  4. We set up, cook from scratch and keep an eye on your timings.
  5. Guests are served from the pan, and our area is cleared afterwards.

How to prepare

  • Check the venue allows live cooking
  • Ensure the spot is clear of anything flammable

How we price paella catering

Each event is quoted on its own, and the price depends on a few things:

  • The paellas you choose
  • How many courses
  • How many guests are eating
  • Parking and unloading

The cost per head usually falls as numbers rise, because the cooking set-up is similar for different sizes of event. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.

Details that help

Here’s what makes a quick, accurate quote possible:

  • The date and time of the event
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal and allergy numbers
  • What the venue already provides
  • A photo of the cooking space, if it’s a garden or field

Each quote is tailored to your event. Give us your date and numbers, and we will check availability at the same time.

Dietary needs and planning tips

With a little notice, every diet is easy. We suggest:

  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • Let us know about other food at the event
  • Tell us about coeliac guests specifically
  • Confirm allergies by email

On the day, you shouldn’t have to think about the food. We arrive in good time, set up, cook and serve, and keep in touch with you or your venue about timings.

Crockery, cutlery and waiting staff are available if your venue doesn’t provide them.
