Paella catering in St George's Fields

Step by step

Your timings come first. If speeches run late or the photos take longer, we hold the paella at the right stage so it is served at its best. Around midsummer it stays light in St George's Fields until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.

  1. We start with a few details about your event.
  2. You get a menu and an itemised quote.
  3. Timings, access and the cooking area are agreed in advance.
  4. We cook live on the day while guests watch.
  5. It’s served straight from the pan, and we clear our area afterwards.

How our paella catering works in St George's Fields

Watching it cook is part of the experience. Guests gather round as the sofrito sizzles and the saffron colours the rice, and the smell does the rest. For big birthdays and naming days and family parties, we’ll put together a menu of vegetable paella, vegan paella and mixed paella.

Gardens in London can be narrow, which is fine for live paella as long as there’s a level spot clear of fences and trees. For an event in St George's Fields, tell us where we can park to unload. Every pan is cooked in front of your guests, so the food is hot, fresh and part of the occasion.

A closer look at the menu

Paella Valenciana

Valencians take their paella seriously. The classic version is chicken, green beans and butter beans with saffron.

Black rice

Black rice looks dramatic and tastes of the sea.

Working with your venue

For larger events, we plan the number of pans and serving points around your timings, so guests are fed quickly. Tell us how long you have for food.

If your event is in a public space, such as a park, check what permission you need first. We’ll provide any information the landowner or council asks for.

St George's Fields: your questions answered

What about parking in St George's Fields?

London parking needs planning: let us know about permits or off-street space. We will plan unloading around it.

Can you cater a reception after a service at Former Church of St Jude?

Yes, at a garden, marquee or venue nearby with a suitable spot to cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is generally elsewhere. Tell us where the reception will be.

Do you provide drinks?

We can make sangria, and provide bar staff to serve drinks you supply.

How much space do you need?

A level space for the pans, burners and a serving table, in the open air or a ventilated covered area, and the venue’s permission for live cooking.

Should we have more than one paella?

Two or three is usual: a meat or mixed paella, a seafood paella and a vegetable or vegan one. We’ll help you decide the split.

Is paella a full meal?

Paella is a meal in itself. Tapas and desserts can be added if you like.

Does paella work for big events?

Yes. Big pans feed plenty of people, and service from the pan is quick.

Do you bring everything you need?

We bring all the cooking equipment. Tell us what the venue provides, such as tables or crockery.

Diets, allergies and planning

We take diets and allergies seriously. Help us by following these steps:

  • Plan seating for most guests: paella is easiest eaten sitting down
  • Plan a meat, a seafood and a vegetable or vegan pan
  • Let us know if anyone has coeliac disease
  • Let us know about other food at the event

After service, we pack down our cooking area.

Sangria and bar staff can be added for your own drinks.

Before you choose a spot

Live paella is cooked over gas burners in large pans, so the cooking area needs a little planning. Here’s what we look for:

  • Somewhere close to park and unload
  • A level, firm spot for the burners and pans
  • Clearance from fences, hedges, branches and anything flammable

As a London location, St George's Fields is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and parking takes planning: let us know about permits, bays or off-street parking.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.

Popular choices

Prices and what affects them

Every event is priced individually, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Staff: cooks, waiting staff and bar staff
  • The number of people
  • Travel, parking and access
  • Chicken, vegetable or premium seafood

Live paella often compares well with a sit-down meal, as there’s no kitchen to hire and fewer staff to pay. Ask us for a quote.

Getting an accurate quote

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what’s useful:

  • A photo of the space, if you can
  • Expected numbers
  • Where the event is
  • Your date and when you want to eat

Not sure what you need yet? No problem: tell us about the occasion and the guests, and we will suggest a menu. Start when you are ready: send us your details through our quote form.

Why choose live paella in St George's Fields?

Plated meals need a kitchen and a bigger team. Live paella needs only a level, ventilated spot and permission to cook, and gives guests something to watch. Cost depends on guest numbers, the menu and the courses, along with staff, extras and travel. We quote for each event individually.

Why choose Love Paella in St George's Fields

  • Everything cooked fresh at your event
  • No hidden extras in your quote
  • Separate pans for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests
  • Starters and desserts to complete the menu

See How we price And Our guide to catering costs.

Should I cook it myself?

If you do cook yourself, test the pan and burner together beforehand, keep the stock hot, and do not stir once the rice goes in. Keep a clear zone around the burner.

Some hosts like to cook themselves. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather be with your guests, we’ll do the cooking.

  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal options
