For planners, venues and organisers

For repeat events, such as annual staff parties or seasonal fairs, let us know your dates early, so we can plan ahead.

Many venues have rules for outside caterers: where cooking is allowed, access times and the paperwork they need. Send us your venue’s requirements and we’ll follow them.

The menu, dish by dish

Black rice

Black rice gets its colour from squid ink, and is generally served with alioli. It’s a striking addition to a seafood menu.

Paella Valenciana

Paella Valenciana is the original: chicken, beans and saffron, not seafood. It is a favourite with guests who don’t eat fish.

Camber: venues, travel and local tips

Camber is about 11 miles north-east of Hastings, in East Sussex. We bring paella catering to gardens, halls and venues around Camber. We cater in 289 places in East Sussex. We cook right across the region, from Camber to Canterbury (about 27 miles away).

If you’re celebrating after a service at a church like St Thomas the Apostle, live paella at a garden or venue nearby works well. Nearby historic houses include Lamb House (2.8 miles west). If your event is at a historic house or estate, check its rules on caterers and cooking early. The coast is within about 3 miles of Camber, and seafood paella always feels right near the sea. Coastal wind means we plan a sheltered spot.

We cook at events all over TN31 and the streets around it. We can cater an event on streets such as Denham Way, Scotts Acre and Old Lydd Road or the roads around them. Neighbouring places where we cater events include Rye Harbour (1 mile west), East Guldeford (2 miles north-west), Rye (3 miles west), Playden (3 miles north-west) and Houghton Green (3 miles north-west). Live paella or other catering?

With a barbecue, food comes in waves. Paella is ready all at once, so everyone eats together. There is no one-size-fits-all price for live paella. A simple paella lunch costs less than a wedding with canapés, three paellas and waiting staff. We itemise everything in your quote.

Why book with us

  • A clear, itemised quote
  • Everything cooked fresh at your event
  • Cooking your guests will gather round to watch
  • Sangria and bar staff available

Read Our prices page Or The cost guide.

What affects the price in Camber

These are the factors that matter most:

  • The paellas you choose
  • Travel, parking and access
  • How many staff you need
  • Starters, canapés and desserts

Extras such as tapas, desserts, sangria, staff and crockery are priced separately, so you can choose exactly what you need.

Getting an accurate quote

Good planning starts with a few facts. Try to include:

  • A picture of where we’d cook
  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • Whether the venue has crockery or staff
  • The address or venue name

To get a price, send us your details through our quote form. Tell us about your event in Camber, and we will put together a menu and price.

Catering for every guest

Few dishes handle mixed diets as well as paella, because each paella is cooked in its own pan. A few tips:

  • Request clear labels at the serving table
  • Let us know if anyone has coeliac disease
  • Plan seating for most guests: paella is easiest eaten sitting down
  • Send allergies to us in writing

If you’ve booked staff, they’ll serve, clear and help keep things moving, so you can enjoy your guests.

Crockery, cutlery and waiting staff are available if your venue doesn’t provide them.

Can I cook paella for a crowd myself?

If you do cook yourself, test the pan and burner together beforehand, keep the stock hot, and leave the rice alone once it’s in. Keep a clear zone around the burner.

Some hosts like to cook themselves. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather enjoy the party, let us cook.

What happens on the day

We take care of the food from set-up to service, so you can enjoy your event. If you’ve chosen tapas or canapés, they go out first as the rice is cooking. Around midsummer it stays light in Camber until about 9:15pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:00pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it is dark by about 3:50pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.

  1. First, tell us about your event.
  2. You get a menu and an itemised quote.
  3. We agree timings, access and the cooking spot.
  4. We cook live on the day while guests watch.
  5. We serve from the pan, then pack down.

What we need at the venue

We will agree the cooking spot with you before the day. A good spot ticks these boxes:

  • Space well away from trees, fences and gazebo walls
  • Outdoor space or a ventilated gazebo
  • Flat, firm ground for the cooking area

Not sure about your space? Send us a picture and we’ll tell you honestly.
