Catering an event in Rye Harbour

Rye Harbour is about 10 miles north-east of Hastings, in East Sussex. For paella catering in Rye Harbour, we can cook in gardens, marquees, barns, courtyards and offices. We cook in all 289 towns and villages across East Sussex. Our nearest city page is Canterbury, about 27 miles away.

For guests coming by train, the nearest station is Rye station, about 1.5 miles north-west. Nearby historic houses include Lamb House (1.4 miles north-west). If your event is at a historic house or estate, check its rules on caterers and cooking early. The coast is within about 2 miles of Rye Harbour, and seafood paella always feels right near the sea. Sea breezes can be strong, so we plan a sheltered cooking spot.

Wherever your event is in TN31, we can bring paella catering to you, from busy streets to quiet lanes. Your event could be at a home on Tram Road, Camber Road and Oyster Creek. Rye Harbour questions

What about events near the coast?

Yes, as long as we can shelter from the wind. Wind is the main issue on the coast, so we plan shelter.

Could we have live paella in Rye Harbour LNR?

Only if the landowner, usually the council, allows it. Check with them, and we will provide our paperwork.

How much is live paella catering?

We quote for each event, so you only pay for what you need. Tell us your date and numbers for a clear quote.

Do you do vegan paella?

Yes. Vegetarian and vegan paellas are cooked in separate pans.

How many paellas should we have?

Generally two or three, so every guest has a choice. We will recommend a mix based on diets.

Can you do sangria?

We can make sangria, and we can staff a bar with your drinks.

What if the weather’s bad?

We need a covered spot, such as a gazebo, marquee or open-sided barn with good ventilation. We’ll agree a wet-weather plan with you.

Can you cater for children?

Of course. Children frequently love a simple chicken paella. Tell us how many are coming.

What affects the price in Rye Harbour

Your quote will be clear and itemised. The main things that affect it are:

  • Crockery and cutlery, or disposables
  • Staff: cooks, waiting staff and bar staff
  • Timings and hours
  • The number of people

Compared with a plated meal, live paella is frequently good value, as there’s no kitchen to hire and fewer staff to pay. Ask us for a quote.

What we need to know

You do not need everything decided to ask for a quote, but these help:

  • Whether you want canapés, tapas or desserts
  • What the venue already provides
  • The date and time of the event
  • The venue or postcode

Every quote is put together for your event. Tell us your date and guest numbers, and we’ll check availability at the same time.

A closer look at the menu

Vegetable and vegan paella

The vegetable pan is a dish in its own right: peppers, artichokes and beans with saffron, cooked in its own pan.

Mixed paella

A mix of chicken and seafood, and a popular all-rounder.

The process

We cook over gas burners in wide, shallow pans. It needs a level spot with some shelter and good ventilation, which we agree with you beforehand. Around midsummer it stays light in Rye Harbour until about 9:15pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:00pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it is dark by about 3:55pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and venue.
  2. We plan a menu that covers every diet.
  3. We arrive in good time to set up.
  4. The sofrito, stock and rice go in, and guests gather to watch.
  5. We serve hot from the pan and clear our cooking area.

Getting ready for the day

  • Arrange parking near the cooking spot
  • Keep the cooking spot clear of fences, hedges and branches
  • Have a gazebo or cover ready if rain is likely

Cook it yourself or book a caterer?

DIY catering keeps costs down, but the host spends the party cooking. Booking us means you get the show without the stress.

You can hire equipment and do it yourself, but there’s shopping, prep and hours of cooking. A caterer handles all of that.

Planning the cooking area

Most outdoor spaces and many venues work for live paella, but a few things matter:

  • The venue’s permission for live cooking
  • A safe distance from anything that could catch
  • A level, firm spot for the burners and pans

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before you book.

On the menu in Rye Harbour

  • Mixed paella
  • Black rice (arroz negro)
  • Paella Valenciana
  • Vegan paella
  • Vegetable paella
  • Chicken & chorizo paella
  • Seafood paella

Catering for every guest

Nearly every event has some special diets. To cater well for them:

  • Confirm allergies by email
  • Flag any coeliac guests, not just gluten-free preferences
  • Plan a meat, a seafood and a vegetable or vegan pan
  • Tell us what else is being served

Once the rice is in, it needs about 20 minutes, so we start it at the right moment for your event. If plans change, tell us and we will adjust.

Finish with churros, crema catalana or tarta de Santiago, or serve your own cake.

Planners, venues and businesses

Events in public spaces, like parks, generally need permission. We can send whatever the landowner or council needs from us.

Booking for a company? Tell us what your finance team needs, and we’ll talk you through the process. We can work with your facilities team on access and timings.

Why choose live paella in Rye Harbour?

Next to a hog roast or barbecue, live paella is easier for vegetarian, vegan and halal guests, because each paella has its own pan. It is served quickly from the pan, so queues move. If you have a budget in mind, tell us, and we’ll put together a menu that fits. Even a simple menu can be a feast.
