Live wedding paella catering in Higham

How our wedding paella catering works in Higham

Paella as evening food is popular: it’s hot, filling and quick to serve, so evening guests are fed and the dancing carries on. For blessings and vow renewals and evening wedding food, we can cook evening paella, Spanish desserts and table tapas for your guests.

There is something special about a country wedding near Higham, and paella cooking in the open air adds to it. Plan for access and a wet-weather cover. Every pan is cooked in front of your guests, so it arrives hot and becomes part of the event.

Prices and what affects them

Every event is priced individually, based on a few main things:

  • Waiting and bar staff
  • The number of people
  • The length of service
  • Extra courses such as canapés, tapas and dessert

If you have a budget in mind, tell us, and we will suggest a menu to match. A simple menu can still feel generous.

What to tell us

For a quote, it helps to have:

  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal and allergy numbers
  • The courses you’d like
  • A picture of the cooking space, if it is a garden or field
  • Expected numbers

Most quotes start with a few simple details: date, location, guest numbers and diets. To send them, fill in our quote form.

What we need at the venue

Live paella is cooked over gas burners in large pans, so the cooking area needs a little planning. These are the things we check:

  • A separate open-sided gazebo if the meal is in a marquee
  • Flat, firm ground for the cooking area
  • Open air or a well-ventilated covered spot

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Popular choices

  • Canapé tapas
  • Sangria & bar staff
  • Table tapas
  • Dessert
  • Evening paella

The process

On the day, we set up our cooking area, light the burners and start the sofrito. The rice goes in about 20 minutes before serving, so the timing is planned around your event. Golden-hour photos in Higham at midsummer come around 9:20pm, which helps us time evening food around your photos. In late May, sunset is about 8:50pm, and in late September about 7:00pm.

  1. We start with your date, venue, numbers and ideas.
  2. We build the menu course by course and send a quote.
  3. Timings are agreed with you and the venue, around speeches and photos.
  4. On the day, we set up, cook in front of your guests and serve each course.
  5. We pack down our cooking area, with staff staying as long as agreed.

Getting ready for the day

  • Tell us where to park and unload
  • Check the venue allows live cooking
  • Confirm numbers and diets before the day

Your questions about wedding paella catering in Higham

Can you cook in Rede Common?

Only if the landowner, typically the council, allows it. Check with them, and we will provide our paperwork.

We’re having a ceremony at Church of St John: can you cater afterwards?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall where we can cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is typically elsewhere. Tell us where the reception will be.

Is halal food available?

Yes. We use halal chicken and leave out pork and alcohol, in its own pan.

Can you do our whole wedding menu?

Yes. Canapé tapas, table tapas, a paella wedding breakfast, evening food and desserts, or any part of that.

Do you work with our venue?

Yes. We are happy to talk to your venue about access, timings and requirements.

How much space do you need?

Not a lot: a level spot clear of fences, hedges and branches, with room for a serving table. Send us a photo if you are not sure.

Do you clear up afterwards?

We clear our cooking area away when service is finished. Waiting staff can clear tables if you book them.

Do you do starters?

Of course. Canapé tapas with the drinks, or table tapas to share, while the rice is cooking.

12 questions to ask before you book

Cook it yourself or book a caterer?

If you do cook yourself, test the pan and burner together beforehand, keep the stock hot, and leave the rice alone once it’s in. And keep children and pets well away from the burner.

Not sure whether to cook yourself or book a caterer? Think about numbers, diets and how much you want to enjoy the day. Ask us for a quote and compare.

Paella compared with other options

If you are weighing up paella against a traditional menu, consider your venue, diets and the style you want. When you compare quotes, check what each one includes: staff, crockery, sides, travel and VAT. Our quotes spell it all out.
