Cook it yourself or book a caterer?
A DIY paella party works for small groups. For larger numbers, mixed diets or a wedding, a caterer takes the pressure off, and keeps vegetarian and allergy-safe pans separate.
Not sure whether to cook yourself or book a caterer? Think about numbers, diets and how much you want to enjoy the day. We’re happy to give you a quote to compare.
Your questions about tapas catering in Whitehawk
Can you cook in Whitehawk Hill?
Only if the landowner, normally the council, allows it. Ask them first, and we’ll send any information they need.
Can you cook at venues in the South Downs National Park?
Yes. Some venues there have rules about vehicles, ground and cooking, so check with yours. We’ll follow the site rules.
How many tapas per person?
That depends on their role in the meal. We’ll suggest quantities for your event.
Can we add drinks?
Yes. Sangria can be added, and bar staff if you are providing the drinks.
Do you provide plates and cutlery?
We can. Let us know what you have, and we will quote for the rest.
Can you serve tapas as well?
Yes, it is the classic pairing. Tapas go out first, then the paella.
Who clears up?
We clear our cooking area away when service is finished. Waiting staff can clear tables if you book them.
Can you cater for vegetarians and vegans?
Yes, and they’re popular with everyone. Each is cooked separately, with its own stock and utensils.
About the dishes
Patatas bravas
Always popular and typically vegetarian.
Tortilla española
A vegetarian favourite.
The process
The cooking is part of the entertainment. Onion, garlic, peppers and tomato go in first, then the stock and saffron, then the rice, which cooks without stirring while your guests chat. At midsummer, it is light in Whitehawk until about 9:15pm, perfect for canapés outdoors. In late September, sunset is about 7:05pm; winter receptions, dark by 3:55pm, are better indoors.
