Why live cooking beats a buffet

For food that gets people mingling, tapas work brilliantly. The cost per head normally falls as numbers rise, because the cooking set-up is similar for different sizes of event. Give us your numbers and we will quote.

Dietary needs and planning tips

Few dishes handle mixed diets as well as paella, because each paella is cooked in its own pan. Here are a few tips for planning:

  • Pair tapas with sangria, cava or sherry
  • Collect dietary needs
  • Label vegetarian and allergen-free dishes
  • Canapés need staff to serve

Each dish is labelled.

What happens on the day

From set-up to serving, we look after the food, so you can enjoy your event. If you’ve chosen tapas or canapés, they go out first as the rice is cooking. A summer drinks reception in Milton Common has daylight until about 9:25pm at midsummer, perfect for canapés outdoors. By late September it is dark around 7:10pm, and in December by about 3:55pm.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and how you want the tapas served.
  2. We put together a tapas selection and a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive, set up and finish the hot tapas on site.
  4. Canapés circulate with drinks, or tapas go to the tables.
  5. We pack down when service ends.

How to prepare

  • Check the venue allows live cooking

Cook it yourself or book a caterer?

A DIY paella party works for small groups. For larger numbers, mixed diets or a wedding, a caterer takes the pressure off, and handles separate pans for each diet.

Not sure whether to cook yourself or book a caterer? Think about numbers, diets and how much you want to enjoy the day. Ask us for a quote and compare.

Common questions in Milton Common

We’re having a ceremony at Church of St Helen: can you cater afterwards?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall where we can cook. Live cooking usually happens at the reception venue, not the church. Send us the reception address.

Is Milton Common close to London?

Roughly 44 miles from the centre of London, and well within our area.

Can you do gluten-free paella?

Yes, on request. The rice is gluten-free, but stocks and chorizo can contain gluten, so we cook a gluten-free paella separately.

How far ahead should we book?

As early as you can, especially for summer weekends. Ask about your date even if it is soon.

Do you cook inside?

Only in a suitable, well-ventilated area with the venue’s permission. Courtyards, doorways and terraces frequently work.

Do you do vegan paella?

Yes, and meat eaters frequently go back for seconds. Each is cooked separately, with its own stock and utensils.

Do you cater for young children?

Children are welcome. Tell us how many and roughly how old, and we’ll plan a pan with them in mind.

Do you cater in Milton Common?

Yes, we do. We cook at events in Milton Common and across Oxfordshire. Tell us your date and we’ll check availability.
