Paella compared with other options

Tapas can be a starter, a reception or the whole meal, which makes them easy to plan around. There’s no one-size-fits-all price for live paella. A simple paella lunch costs less than a wedding with canapés, three paellas and waiting staff. We itemise everything in your quote.

How it works

The cooking is part of the entertainment. We start with the sofrito, add the stock and saffron, then spread the rice across the pan and leave it alone to cook. A summer drinks reception in Fittleworth has daylight until about 9:20pm at midsummer, perfect for canapés outdoors. In late September, sunset is about 7:05pm; winter receptions, dark by 4:00pm, are better indoors.

  1. You tell us the date, venue, numbers and how you’d like the tapas served.
  2. We suggest a selection and confirm a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive, set up and finish the hot tapas on site.
  4. We serve canapés with drinks or set table tapas down to share.
  5. We clear away our equipment when service is finished.

Cook it yourself or book a caterer?

You can cook paella for a crowd yourself, but it takes practice. Large pans need the right burners, and getting the rice right for dozens of people takes experience. Read how to cook paella for a crowd.

Space, weather and the venue

No two venues are the same, so we ask about the space when you get in touch. Generally, we look for:

  • Permission from the venue
  • Access to unload near the serving area
  • An area to prepare hot tapas

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before booking.
