Cook it yourself or book a caterer?

Plenty of people try cooking paella for their own party. Common mistakes are mismatched pans and burners, overfilling and stirring. If you’d rather be with your guests, we will do the cooking.

You can cook paella for a crowd yourself, but it takes practice. A big pan needs a burner that heats it evenly, and getting the rice right at scale is tricky. Read how to cook paella for a crowd.

Paella compared with other options

Unlike a barbecue, paella is ready at once, so nobody waits for the next batch. And there is no host stuck at the grill. Premium seafood costs more than chicken or vegetables, so the menu you choose affects the price. Tell us your budget and we’ll suggest a menu.

Why book with us

The process

The paella is cooked in huge, shallow pans over gas burners. We need a level, ventilated spot, and we agree where that is before the day. A summer party in Southbourne stays light until about 9:20pm at midsummer, which gives a garden party a long evening. By late September sunset is around 7:05pm, so plan festoon lights for later parties.

  1. First, we check the date and the space.
  2. You choose your paellas and any extras.
  3. We set up the burners and start the sofrito.
  4. The rice goes in and your guests gather round.
  5. It’s served hot, and we clear away afterwards.

Before we arrive

  • Confirm the venue is happy with live cooking
  • Let us know the timings for the day
  • Choose a level spot for the cooking area

How to compare caterers

How we price paella party catering

The same guest numbers can mean different prices, depending on:

  • How long we’re needed on site
  • How many courses
  • Waiting and bar staff
  • Whether you need crockery

The cost per head generally falls as numbers rise, because the cooking set-up is similar for different sizes of event. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.

Details that help

When you get in touch, it helps to tell us:

  • Anything your venue supplies
  • A picture of the cooking space, if it is a garden or field
  • Expected numbers
  • Whether you want canapés, tapas or desserts

  • Keep a clear zone around the cooking area

At food time, we serve straight from the pan, while you enjoy your guests.

Parties in Southbourne: gardens, venues and local tips

Southbourne is about 4 miles east of Havant, in West Sussex. Wherever your party is in the PO10 area, we can cook for your guests. Southbourne is one of 371 places in West Sussex where we cook. Our events stretch from Southbourne to Southampton (22 miles away).

Nearby historic houses include Warblington Castle (2.5 miles west). Grand settings like these frequently have strict catering rules, so for most parties a garden or hired hall is simpler. Near the coast, within about 6 miles, seafood paella is a natural choice, with shelter from the breeze planned in.

We cater parties across PO10. From Lodgebury Close, Manor Road and Northcote Gardens or a nearby road, we can cook there. For parties just outside Southbourne, we cover Woodmancote (1 mile north), Lumley (1 mile west), Westbourne (1 mile north-west), Emsworth (1 mile west) and Thorney Island (2 miles south-west). Southbourne: your questions answered

What’s the nearest station to Southbourne for guests?

Southbourne station, in Southbourne itself.

Can you cater a reception after a service at St. John's?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall where we can cook. Live cooking generally happens at the reception venue, not the church. Tell us where the reception will be.

Can you cater a party at a village hall?

Generally. We need a suitable spot and the venue’s agreement.

Do you cater in Southbourne?

Yes, we do. Southbourne is one of the places we cover. Send us your date to check availability.

What if the weather’s bad?

We cook under cover, such as a gazebo, marquee or open-sided barn with good ventilation. We’ll agree a wet-weather plan with you.

Can you serve tapas as well?

Yes. Canapé tapas with the drinks, or table tapas to share, served while the paella cooks.

Is my garden big enough?

Many gardens work. We need a level spot, clearance from anything flammable and reasonable access. A photo helps.

Do you bring plates and cutlery?

On request. Proper crockery or good-quality disposables can be added.
