Can I cook paella for a crowd myself?

Doing it yourself saves money, but the host ends up stuck at the stove. With live paella catering, you get the theatre without the work.

Some hosts like to cook themselves. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather be with your guests, we will do the cooking.

Is live paella right for your party?

Hog roasts do not suit vegetarians and vegans. Separate paella pans cover everyone. Travel, parking and access can affect the price, so tell us about the venue when you ask for a quote. Everything is confirmed in writing.

Why book with us

  • Sangria, plus bar staff for your own drinks
  • Paella cooked from scratch on site

Your questions about paella party catering in Shorthampton

Is Shorthampton too small for live paella?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and parking.

We’re having a ceremony at Church of All Saints: can you cater afterwards?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall where we can cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is normally elsewhere. Send us the reception address.

Can you provide dessert?

Yes. Churros, crema catalana and tarta de Santiago are popular choices, or you can serve your own cake.

Can you set up in a small garden?

Most gardens are fine. We need level ground, clearance and access. Send us a picture.

How far ahead should we book?

Early, particularly for summer Saturdays. Ask about your date even if it is soon.

Will it be noisy or smoky?

There’s a cooking smell, but much less smoke than a barbecue. A friendly note to the neighbours helps.

Do you cater for children?

Most children enjoy paella, especially a mild chicken one. Tell us how many and their ages.

Can you cook halal paella?

Yes, we do. We use halal chicken and leave out pork and alcohol, in its own pan.

How it works

On the day, we set up the burners and pans and start cooking the sofrito and stock. Once the rice goes in, it takes about 20 minutes, so we time everything to your schedule. At midsummer, it is light in Shorthampton until about 9:30pm, which gives a garden party a long evening. By late September sunset is around 7:10pm, so plan festoon lights for later parties.

  1. Send us the date, the address, numbers and diets.
  2. We suggest a menu and confirm a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive, set up our cooking area and start cooking.
  4. The paella cooks while your guests chat, with any tapas served first.
  5. We serve from the pan and clear our cooking area away when we are done.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us when you want to eat
  • Have a level space ready for the pans
  • Confirm the venue is happy with live cooking

Paella is one of the easiest dishes for mixed diets, because each paella is cooked in its own pan. A few tips:

  • Have cover ready for a shower
  • Warn the neighbours

Children love watching the paella cook, from a safe distance.
