Planning for every diet

Dietary needs are easy to plan for with a little notice. We suggest:

  • Have enough chairs for most guests
  • Tell us how many children are coming
  • Plan a covered spot for wet weather
  • Keep a clear zone around the cooking area

The cooking area stays tidy and safe, with a clear space around the burners.

Tapas and nibbles while the paella cooks keep hunger at bay.

Common questions in Oxford

We’re having a ceremony at St Clement's Church: can you cater afterwards?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall where we can cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is generally elsewhere. Send us the reception address.

What’s the nearest station to Oxford for guests?

The closest is Oxford station, roughly 1.6 miles away.

Will the neighbours notice?

Gas cooking means steam and a good smell, not much smoke. Neighbours may well want an invitation.

When should I book?

The sooner the better, but it’s always worth asking. We will check availability straight away.

Can the paella be cooked in a hall?

Mostly outside or under an open cover, because we use gas burners. We will check whether your venue has a suitable space.

Can you cater at a hired venue?

Yes, if there’s a suitable outdoor or ventilated spot to cook. Check the venue allows live cooking.

What space do you need to cook?

Level ground for the burners, pans and a table, in the open air or a ventilated covered area, and the venue’s permission for live cooking.

How much is live paella catering?

Every event is quoted individually, so you only pay for what you need. Give us your date, numbers and menu ideas and we’ll reply with a price.

Why live cooking beats a buffet

Compared with a barbecue, paella is served all at once, so nobody waits for the next batch. And there is no host stuck at the grill. Got a budget? Let us know, and we’ll put together a menu that fits. Even a simple menu can be a feast.

A closer look at the menu

Chicken & chorizo paella

A smoky favourite with children and adults, and a good choice for guests who don’t eat seafood.

Vegetable paella

Vegetable paella in its own right, with peppers, beans and artichokes.

DIY paella versus live catering

Not sure whether to cook yourself or book a caterer? Consider your numbers, your guests’ diets and your own time. Ask us for a quote and compare.

Hiring a pan and burner is one option, but there is shopping, prep and hours of cooking. A caterer handles all of that.

What paella party catering costs

Every event is priced individually, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Starters, canapés and desserts
  • Plates, cutlery and glassware
  • Timings and hours
  • Your choice of paellas

Cost depends on guest numbers, the menu and the courses, along with staff, extras and travel. We quote for each event individually.

Details that help

You don’t need every detail fixed to get a quote, but it helps to know:

  • The courses you’d like
  • The date and rough timings
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal and allergy numbers
  • A picture of the space, if you can

Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many guests, along with any dietary needs, and we’ll reply with a menu suggestion and a quote. To get started, fill in our quote form.

Occasions we cook for in Oxford

One big dish is simpler than lots of small ones.

Live paella works for big and small events alike. Typical bookings include:

  • Retirement celebrations
  • Wakes and celebrations of life
  • Family get-togethers
  • Anniversary celebrations

Parks such as South Park generally need permission for cooking, so a garden or hired venue is frequently easier.

Before booking anyone

  • How each diet is kept separate
  • How late numbers can change
  • The deposit and payment dates
  • Whether crockery, cutlery and napkins are included

Our caterer checklist

Step by step

The cooking is part of the entertainment. Onion, garlic, peppers and tomato go in first, then the stock and saffron, then the rice, which cooks without stirring. Sunset in Oxford is about 9:00pm in late May and 9:25pm in late June. If the party runs past dark, we’ll need light where we cook and serve.

  1. First, we check the date and the space.
  2. You choose your paellas and any extras.
  3. We set up the burners and start the sofrito.
  4. The rice goes in and your guests gather round.
  5. It is served hot, and we clear away afterwards.
