What happens on the day

On the day, we set up the burners and pans and start cooking the sofrito and stock. Once the rice goes in, it takes about 20 minutes, so we time everything to your schedule. At midsummer, it’s light in New Pound until about 9:20pm, which gives a garden party a long evening. In late September it is dark by about 7:00pm; add lights for the evening.

  1. We check your date and the space.
  2. You choose your paellas and any extras.
  3. The burners go on and the sofrito starts.
  4. In goes the rice, and guests gather.
  5. We serve hot and tidy our area afterwards.

Should I cook it myself?

For a small group, cooking yourself can work well. For big numbers or lots of diets, a caterer makes life easier, and keeps vegetarian and allergy-safe pans separate.

Doing it yourself saves money, but the host ends up stuck at the stove. Booking us means you get the show without the stress.

New Pound: your questions answered

Which station should guests use for New Pound?

The closest is Wateringbury station, roughly 2.8 miles away.

Is New Pound too small for live paella?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and parking.

Can the paella be cooked in a hall?

Usually we cook outdoors or under a ventilated cover, since the burners are gas. Some venues have suitable spaces; we will check with you and the venue.

How much paella per person?

Pans are sized to your numbers and other courses. Tell us what else is being served. See how much paella per person.

Can you do a kids’ option?

Most children enjoy paella, particularly a simple chicken pan. Let us know numbers and ages.

Can you cater a party at a village hall?

Usually. We need a suitable spot and the venue’s agreement.

Is my garden big enough?

Most gardens are fine. We need level ground, clearance and access. A picture helps.

How many paellas should we have?

Two or three covers most guests. We will recommend a mix based on diets.

Is live paella right for your party?

Hog roasts do not suit vegetarians and vegans. Separate paella pans cover everyone. Access and travel can make a difference to the cost, so tell us about the venue when you ask for a quote. The full price is confirmed before booking.

Why us?

  • Live cooking, not reheated food
  • Crockery and waiting staff if you need them
