Planning an event in Dummer?

Dummer: your questions answered

Is Dummer close to London?

Roughly 50 miles from the centre of London, and well within our area.

What’s the nearest station to Dummer for guests?

The closest is Micheldever station, roughly 4.8 miles away.

Do you cater for vegetarian guests?

Of course. We cook vegetarian and vegan paellas in their own pans.

Do you provide plates and cutlery?

We can. Let us know what you have, and we will quote for the rest.

Is it really cooked live?

Yes, always. We cook from scratch in large pans at your venue, where your guests can watch.

Do you do desserts?

Yes, Spanish desserts can be added. Let us know if you’d like one when you ask for a quote.

When do you arrive?

We get there in good time to set up. The rice itself takes about 20 minutes, timed around your event.

Will it be noisy or smoky?

Gas cooking means steam and a good smell, not much smoke. The smell is normally the best advert for the party.

DIY paella versus live catering

If you do cook yourself, test the pan and burner together beforehand, have hot stock ready, and leave the rice alone once it is in. And keep children and pets well away from the burner.

You can cook paella for a crowd yourself, but it takes practice. A big pan needs a burner that heats it evenly, and getting the rice right for dozens of people takes experience. Read how to cook paella for a crowd.

For planners, venues and organisers

If your event is in a public space, such as a park, check what permission you need first. We’ll provide any information the landowner or council asks for.

Wedding planners and venue coordinators are welcome to contact us directly, and we’ll keep you updated on timings and set-up.

Prices and what affects them

Two events with the same number of guests can cost different amounts, depending on:

  • Crockery and cutlery, or disposables
  • Waiting and bar staff
  • How many courses
  • Chicken, vegetable or premium seafood

If you have a budget in mind, tell us, and we will suggest a menu to match. A simple menu can still feel generous.

What to tell us

When you get in touch, it helps to tell us:

  • Expected numbers
  • The date and time of the event
  • The address or venue name
  • Diets and allergies you know about

Every quote is put together for your event. Tell us your date and guest numbers, and we’ll confirm whether we are available that day.

Space, weather and the venue

Safety and good cooking both depend on the spot we use. We look for:

  • Space well away from trees, fences and gazebo walls
  • Level ground for the pans and burners
  • The venue’s permission for live cooking

Not sure about your space? Send us a picture and we will tell you honestly.

On the menu in Dummer

How the day works

The paella is cooked in huge, shallow pans over gas burners. We need a level, ventilated spot, and we agree where that is before the day. At midsummer, it is light in Dummer until about 9:25pm, so a garden party can run well into the evening. In late September it’s dark by about 7:10pm; add lights for the evening.

  1. It starts with your date, address, numbers and any diets.
  2. We suggest paellas and extras and send a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive, set up our cooking area and start cooking.
  4. The paella cooks while your guests chat, with any tapas served first.
  5. We serve it hot from the pan, then pack down.

Getting ready for the day

  • Name one person we can ask on the day
  • Tell us when you want to eat
  • Ensure the spot is clear of anything flammable

Dietary needs and planning tips

We cater for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests. To get it right:

  • Give the neighbours a heads-up
  • Arrange a gazebo in case of rain
  • Collect dietary needs with your invites
  • Have enough chairs for most guests

We arrive before your guests to set up.

Churros and chocolate go down well with all ages.

Occasions we cook for in Dummer

It feels like a holiday in your own garden.

Whatever the occasion, live paella can be the centrepiece. We regularly cater:

  • Milestone birthdays
  • Retirement celebrations
  • Naming days and christenings
  • Neighbourhood celebrations

After a christening at a church like Church of All Saints, a paella lunch is an easy way to feed family and friends.

What your quote should include

  • How each diet is kept separate
  • How late numbers can change
  • A clear list of what’s included
  • Space, access and power needs

How to compare caterers

Is live paella right for your party?

Hog roasts do not suit vegetarians and vegans. Separate paella pans cover everyone. Premium seafood costs more than chicken or vegetables, so the menu you choose affects the price. We’ll suggest options to suit your budget.

Why book with us

  • Cooking your guests will gather round to watch
  • Events in Dummer and across Hampshire
  • Starters and desserts to complete the menu
  • Separate pans for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests
