Live paella or other catering?

Next to a hog roast or barbecue, paella makes vegetarian, vegan and halal guests easier to cater for, because each paella has its own pan. Service from the pan keeps queues moving. Live paella pricing depends on the event. A simple paella lunch costs less than a wedding with canapés, three paellas and waiting staff. Your quote spells it all out.

Paella catering for your event in Wells-in-the-Field

A couple of different pans covers everyone: a meat or mixed paella, a seafood paella and a vegetable or vegan one. Each is cooked separately. On the menu are black rice, paella Valenciana and mixed paella, and we’re frequently booked for big birthdays and garden parties and summer barbecues.

In a small place like Wells-in-the-Field, events are normally in a garden, a field or a nearby hall. Country lanes and long drives are no problem if we know about them, and a firm spot near where we park makes set-up easier. We bring everything we need to cook, and pack down our cooking area when service is finished.

How far is Wells-in-the-Field from London?

Roughly 56 miles from the centre of London, and we cover it as standard.

Is Wells-in-the-Field too small for live paella?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and parking.

Can you cater for vegetarians and vegans?

Yes, and meat eaters frequently go back for seconds. Each is cooked separately, with its own stock and utensils.

Do you provide drinks?

Yes, sangria. We can also supply bar staff for your own drinks.

What happens if it rains?

We need a covered spot, like a gazebo or open-sided marquee. We will agree a wet-weather plan with you.

What seafood can we have?

Seafood choices are agreed when we plan the menu, including premium options if you want them.

How far ahead should we book?

As early as you can, especially for summer weekends. Ask about your date even if it’s soon.

Do you offer halal options?

Yes, on request. Let us know your halal numbers, and we’ll cook a separate pan.

About the dishes

Vegetable and vegan paella

Seasonal vegetables on a rich sofrito base make a paella that stands on its own. Vegan versions use plant-based stock.

Black rice

Arroz negro is coloured and flavoured with squid ink, traditionally with alioli. It makes a dramatic second seafood pan.

How it works

When we arrive, we set up the burners and pans and start cooking the sofrito and stock. Once the rice goes in, it takes about 20 minutes, so the timing is planned around your event. Planning an evening event in Wells-in-the-Field? Sunset is around 8:55pm in late May, 9:25pm at midsummer and 7:10pm in late September; once it’s dark, we need light to cook and serve by.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and venue.
  2. We plan the menu with you, including every diet.
  3. We arrive early to set up the burners and pans.
  4. The sofrito, stock and rice go in, and guests gather to watch.
  5. Service is straight from the pan, then we pack down.

Before we arrive

  • Have a level space ready for the pans
  • Plan cover in case of rain
  • Tell us when you want to eat

Planning for every diet

Paella is one of the easiest dishes for mixed diets, because every paella has its own pan. Here are a few tips for planning:

  • Put allergy details in writing
  • Choose two or three paellas so every guest has a choice
  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • Let us know if anyone has coeliac disease

A short rest after cooking helps, and that’s when we invite guests up.

Need plates or staff? We can provide them.
