Paella catering in Segensworth, cooked live

Watching it cook is part of the experience. People drift over as the sofrito sizzles and the rice turns gold, and the smell does the rest. Whether it’s birthday celebrations and office lunches and staff parties, we can cook seafood paella, paella Valenciana and mixed paella and more.

In a small place like Segensworth, events are generally in a garden, a field or a nearby hall. Tell us about narrow lanes or long drives and we will plan for them, and cooking close to where we can park helps. Every pan is cooked in front of your guests, so the food is hot, fresh and part of the occasion.

Why live cooking beats a buffet

Food trucks and street-food vans serve one portion at a time. A big pan serves many guests fast, so everyone can eat at the same time. Seafood and premium ingredients cost more than chicken or vegetable paellas, so the menu you choose affects the price. Tell us your budget and we’ll suggest a menu.

Why us?

  • Food that becomes part of the entertainment
  • A quote that spells everything out
  • Crockery and waiting staff if you need them
  • Sangria and bar staff available

How the day works

Watching it cook is half the fun. We start with the sofrito, add the stock and saffron, then spread the rice across the pan and leave it alone to cook. Around midsummer it stays light in Segensworth until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so summer evening events are normally served in daylight. For winter events, when it’s dark by about 4:00pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.

  1. Start with the date, the place and the numbers.
  2. Expect a menu idea and a clear, itemised price.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm the plan.
  4. We set up, cook from scratch and keep an eye on your timings.
  5. Guests are served from the pan, and our area is cleared afterwards.

Segensworth: venues, travel and local tips

Segensworth is about 3 miles north-west of Fareham, in Hampshire. Wherever your event is in the PO15 area, we can cook for your guests. We cook in 683 places across Hampshire. We cook right across the region, from Segensworth to Southampton (about 7 miles away).

For a christening or wedding at a church such as St John, a paella lunch or reception nearby is an easy way to feed everyone. If you are organising a summer fair for a school like Cornerstone CofE (VA) Primary School, a paella stall is a crowd-pleaser. Segensworth is within about 3 miles of the sea, and seafood paella always feels right near the sea. Sea breezes can be strong, so we plan a sheltered cooking spot.

This part of Hampshire takes in PO15 and SO31. From Witherbed Lane, Brunel Way and Concorde Way or a nearby road, we will bring the pans to you. Other places close to Segensworth for paella catering include Titchfield Park (1 mile south), Park Gate (1 mile west), Locks Heath (1 mile south-west), Whiteley (1 mile north) and Titchfield Common (1 mile south-west). Larger places within reach include Winchester (13 miles north), Gosport (6 miles south-east), Havant (11 miles east), Eastleigh (8 miles north-west), Fareham (3 miles south-east) and Horndean (11 miles east).

A little further out are Fareham Community Hospital (1.2 miles west) and St Andrew's Castle (3.2 miles west). Not far away are Swanwick Lakes.

Planning the cooking area

Safety and good cooking both depend on the spot we use. We need:

  • Open air or a well-ventilated covered spot
  • Space well away from trees, fences and gazebo walls
  • Confirmation that open cooking is allowed

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

Common questions in Segensworth

What about events near the coast?

Yes, as long as we can shelter from the wind. Sea breezes cool the pan, so a windbreak, building or gazebo helps.

Can you cater a reception after a service at St John?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall where we can cook. Live cooking normally happens at the reception venue, not the church. Tell us where the reception will be.

What happens with live paella?

We arrive with pans, burners and ingredients, cook while everyone watches, and serve at the time you want.

How long does the paella take?

We get there in good time to set up. Once the rice goes in, it takes about 20 minutes, and we time it to your schedule.

Do you come to Segensworth?

Yes, we do. Segensworth is one of the places we cover. Tell us your date and we will check availability.

Can paella be the only main course?

Paella is a meal in itself. Many hosts add tapas first or dessert after.

Can you cater for vegetarians and vegans?

Yes. We cook vegetarian and vegan paellas in their own pans, alongside the meat and seafood pans.

What if the weather’s bad?

We need a covered spot, like a gazebo or open-sided marquee. We plan for rain with you in advance.

What’s in the pans

Seafood paella

Seafood paella starts with a good fish and shellfish stock. The shellfish is added late so it stays tender.

Paella Valenciana

Valencians take their paella seriously. The classic version is chicken, green beans and butter beans with saffron, and it is a crowd-pleaser.

DIY paella versus live catering

Not sure whether to cook yourself or book a caterer? Think about numbers, diets and how much you want to enjoy the day. Ask us for a quote and compare.

Cooking it yourself? Test your pan and burner first, keep the stock hot, and leave the rice alone once it is in. Keep a clear zone around the burner.

Diets, allergies and planning

Dietary needs are easy to plan for with a little notice. Our advice:

  • Put allergy details in writing
  • Give us separate numbers for children
  • Plan a meat, a seafood and a vegetable or vegan pan
  • Make sure most guests can sit to eat

Once everyone is fed, we clear our cooking area, quietly and quickly.

Crockery, cutlery and waiting staff are available if your venue doesn’t provide them.
