Paella catering for Lower Swanwick events
How our paella catering works in Lower Swanwick
Everything is cooked from scratch on site, starting with a slow sofrito of onion, garlic, peppers and tomato, then the stock, saffron and rice. We are often asked to cater engagement and anniversary parties and family celebrations and christenings, with black rice, vegetable paella and vegan paella.
Somewhere as small as Lower Swanwick, a garden or field is often the venue. Country lanes and long drives are no problem if we know about them, and a firm spot near where we park makes set-up easier. You can add tapas, desserts, sangria, bar staff and waiting staff, so the whole menu comes from one caterer.
Should I cook it myself?
Cooking it yourself? Test your pan and burner first, keep the stock hot, and do not stir once the rice goes in. And keep children and pets well away from the burner.
For a small group, cooking yourself can work well. For larger numbers, mixed diets or a wedding, a caterer takes the pressure off, and handles separate pans for each diet.

FAQs for Lower Swanwick
We are having a ceremony at Church of St Leonard: can you cater afterwards?
Yes, at a garden, marquee or venue nearby with a suitable spot to cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is normally elsewhere. Tell us where the reception will be.
Do you come out to small places like Lower Swanwick?
Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and parking.
Will there be enough food?
Quantities depend on numbers, timing and courses, with a little extra built in. Give us accurate numbers for the best result.
Which paellas do you recommend?
Most events choose two or three: a mixed or chicken paella, a seafood paella and a vegetable or vegan one. Our menu lists the options.
Can we choose the seafood?
We’ll suggest seafood to suit your menu and budget. Premium options are available.
Can you provide dessert?
We do. Churros, crema catalana and tarta de Santiago are popular choices, or you can serve your own cake.
Is the paella cooked on site?
Yes, always. Every paella is cooked from scratch on site, in front of your guests.
What do you need at the venue?
A level space for the pans, burners and a serving table, outdoors or in a marquee or well-ventilated area, plus the venue’s agreement to cooking.
Paella compared with other options
Vans serve one order at a time. A paella pan serves many portions quickly, so everyone can eat at the same time. Live paella pricing depends on the event. A garden party lunch and a full wedding menu are very different jobs. Your quote spells it all out.

Catering for every guest
With a little notice, every diet is easy. We suggest:
- Let us know if anyone has coeliac disease
- Pick a mix of paellas to cover every diet
- Collect dietary needs with your RSVPs
- Make sure most guests can sit to eat
A short rest after cooking helps, and that’s when we invite guests up.
Finish with churros, crema catalana or tarta de Santiago.
How the day works
We cook over gas burners in wide, shallow pans. We need a level, ventilated spot, which we agree with you beforehand. In Lower Swanwick, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it is dark by about 4:00pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.
- Start with the date, the place and the numbers.
- Expect a menu idea and a clear, itemised price.
- A week or so before, we confirm the plan.
- We set up, cook from scratch and keep an eye on your timings.
- We serve, then leave our area tidy.
Preparing for the day
- Arrange parking near the cooking spot
- Confirm numbers and diets before the day
- Keep the cooking spot clear of fences, hedges and branches
