About our paella catering in Landport

DIY paella versus live catering

Cooking paella for a crowd yourself is possible, but it’s harder than it looks. A big pan needs a burner that heats it evenly, and getting the rice right at scale is tricky. Read how to cook paella for a crowd.

Doing it yourself saves money, but the host ends up stuck at the stove. Booking us means you get the show without the stress.

About the dishes

Vegetable and vegan paella

The vegetable pan is a dish in its own right: peppers, artichokes and beans with saffron, cooked in its own pan.

Seafood paella

Seafood paella starts with a good fish and shellfish stock. The shellfish is added late so it stays tender.

Why live cooking beats a buffet

If you want something different from the usual buffet or roast, live paella brings colour, aroma and a touch of Spain to your event in Landport. There is no one-size-fits-all price for live paella. A simple paella lunch costs less than a wedding with canapés, three paellas and waiting staff. Your quote spells it all out.

Why book with us

  • Fast service from the pan
  • Add tapas, canapés and Spanish desserts
  • Waiting staff and crockery on request
  • Food that becomes part of the entertainment

Paella catering around Landport

Landport is about 1 mile south-west of Portsmouth, in Portsmouth. Anywhere in PO1, we will come to your venue or garden. Landport is one of 19 places in Portsmouth where we cook. Our events stretch from Landport to Southampton (16 miles away).

For guests coming by train, Landport has its own station, Portsmouth & Southsea station. For a christening or wedding at a church such as Church of All Saints, a paella lunch or reception nearby is an easy way to feed everyone. Landport is within about 2 miles of the sea, so a seafood pan is a popular choice. Coastal wind means we plan a sheltered spot.

We cover events in every part of the PO1, PO2 and PO5 postcode area and the streets around it. Local streets include Lake Road, Watts Road and Alfred Road; an event at home on any of them works well with live paella. If your venue is just outside Landport, we also cover Portsmouth (1 mile north-east), Fratton (1 mile east), Rudmore (1 mile north), Kingston (1 mile east) and North End (1 mile north). Larger places within reach include Wymering (3 miles north), Paulsgrove (3 miles north), Cosham (3 miles north), Drayton (3 miles north-east) and Farlington (4 miles north-east).

A little further out are Southsea Castle (1.7 miles south) and Tricorn Centre (under half a mile west). Open spaces near Landport include Milton Locks and Portsdown Hill.

Landport questions

We are having a ceremony at Church of All Saints: can you cater afterwards?

Yes, at a garden, marquee or venue nearby with a suitable spot to cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is normally elsewhere. Send us the reception address.

What’s the nearest station to Landport for guests?

Portsmouth & Southsea station, in Landport itself.

Which paella is most popular?

It depends on your guests. A chicken or mixed paella is typically the most popular, with seafood and vegetable pans alongside.

Can you cook indoors?

Indoors only where ventilation and the venue allow it. Courtyards, doorways and terraces frequently work.

What space do you need to cook?

Not a lot: a flat spot away from anything flammable, with space to serve. Send us a photo if you are not sure.

Can we add tapas or canapés?

Of course. Canapés with drinks or tapas for the tables, while the rice is cooking.

How many different paellas?

Usually two or three, so every guest has a choice. Tell us about your guests’ diets and we will suggest the mix.

Do you provide plates and cutlery?

We can. Let us know what you have, and we’ll quote for the rest.

What happens on the day

We cook over gas burners in wide, shallow pans. We need a level, ventilated spot, and we agree where that is before the day. Evenings in Landport stay light until about 9:20pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:10pm; after dark, the cooking and serving areas need good lighting.

  1. You share your date, numbers and venue.
  2. We plan the menu with you, including every diet.
  3. We arrive in good time to set up.
  4. The paella cooks as guests gather round.
  5. We serve hot from the pan and clear our cooking area.

Before we arrive

  • Confirm numbers and diets before the day
  • Make sure we can park close by to unload
  • Have a level space ready for the pans

Planning for every diet

Few dishes handle mixed diets as well as paella, because every paella has its own pan. A few tips:

  • Choose two or three paellas so every guest has a choice
  • Tell us what else is being served
  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • Put allergy details in writing

Any staff you book serve and clear, so you can enjoy your guests.

Bread, salad and lemon wedges make the meal go further and suit guests who are not big rice eaters.

Space, weather and the venue

We cook in large pans over gas burners, so the cooking area needs a little planning. These are the things we check:

  • The venue’s permission for live cooking
  • Somewhere close to park and unload
  • Level ground for the pans and burners

Not sure about your space? Send us a picture and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Popular choices

  • Vegan paella
  • Vegetable paella
  • Mixed paella
  • Chicken & chorizo paella
  • Paella Valenciana
  • Black rice (arroz negro)
  • Seafood paella

Organising for someone else?

Many venues have rules for outside caterers: where cooking is allowed, access times and the paperwork they need. Send us your venue’s requirements and we will follow them.

Hosting a party at home? Send us a picture of the garden and tell us about access, and we will let you know if live paella is a good fit.
