Paella catering in Hove

Paella catering in Hove, made fresh on the day

A single cooking set-up can feed a crowd, there’s very little waste, and the food is served hot. It’s why live paella suits so many kinds of event. For wedding breakfasts and evening food and festivals, fairs and school events, we can cook seafood paella, vegan paella and paella Valenciana.

Most events in a town like Hove are in gardens, halls with outdoor space or hired venues. Each works well, provided we can park nearby and cook on level ground. Each paella is cooked from scratch on the day, never made in advance and reheated, and served the moment it is ready.

What’s in the pans

Mixed paella

Paella mixta combines meat and seafood in one pan.

Paella Valenciana

Valencians take their paella seriously. The traditional pan has chicken, flat green beans and butter beans.

Why live cooking beats a buffet

Barbecues cook in batches, so food comes off in waves. Paella is cooked as one big dish and served together. When you compare quotes, check what each one includes: staff, crockery, bread and salads, travel and VAT. Our quotes spell it all out.

Hove: your questions answered

Which station should guests use for Hove?

Hove has its own station: Hove station.

Do you cater in the South Downs National Park?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules; ask your venue. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

Which paellas suit our guests?

It depends on your guests. A chicken or mixed paella is generally the most popular, with seafood and vegetable pans alongside.

How does live paella catering work?

We bring everything needed to cook on site, cook while everyone watches, and serve when you are ready to eat.

When do you arrive?

We arrive well before serving to set up and start the stock. Once the rice goes in, it takes about 20 minutes, timed around your event.

What space do you need to cook?

Less than you might think: a level spot clear of fences, hedges and branches, with room for a serving table. If in doubt, send a picture.

Can you cook in the rain?

Rain doesn’t stop us, as long as there is a ventilated cover. We’ll make a plan B with you.

Can you do sangria?

We can make sangria, and we can staff a bar with your drinks.

Paella catering around Hove

Hove is about 2 miles west of Brighton, in Brighton and Hove. We cook at events in gardens, halls and venues around Hove and the surrounding area. We cater in all 30 towns and villages in Brighton and Hove.

If you’re organising a summer fair for a school like St Andrew's CofE (Aided) Primary School, a paella stall is a crowd-pleaser. Thinking of a picnic-style party in St. Ann's Well Gardens? Public parks typically need permission from the council or landowner for cooking, so check first. Hove is within about 7 miles of the South Downs National Park, a lovely setting for an outdoor event. Some venues in protected landscapes have rules about vehicles and cooking, so check with yours. Hove is within about 2 miles of the sea, so a seafood pan is a popular choice. Sea breezes can be strong, so we plan a sheltered cooking spot.

We cook at events all over the BN3, BN1 and BN52 postcode area and the streets around it. Local streets include Farm Road, York Road and Aymer Road; an event at home on any of them works well with live paella. Main roads around Hove include the A270 and A2023, so getting the burners and pans to your event is simple. Nearby, we also cater events in Brighton and Hove (1 mile north-west), Brunswick (1 mile south-east), Aldrington (1 mile west), Prestonville (1 mile north-east) and West Blatchington (1 mile north). We also cook in nearby towns such as Kemptown (3 miles east), Whitehawk (3 miles east), Moulsecoomb (3 miles east), Hollingbury (3 miles north-east), Bevendean (3 miles east) and Saltdean (6 miles east). Planning the cooking area

We’ll be honest if a space will not work, and help find another spot. What matters most:

  • Access for unloading near the cooking spot
  • Confirmation that open cooking is allowed
  • Space well away from trees, fences and gazebo walls

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Planners, venues and businesses

For repeat events, such as annual staff parties or seasonal fairs, let us know your dates early, so we can hold the date.

Hosting a party at home? Send us a photo of the garden and tell us about access, and we will tell you honestly whether live paella will work.

Should I cook it myself?

DIY catering keeps costs down, but the host spends the party cooking. Booking us means you get the show without the stress.

For a small group, cooking yourself can work well. For larger numbers, mixed diets or a wedding, a caterer takes the pressure off, and keeps vegetarian and allergy-safe pans separate.

How the day works

Watching it cook is half the fun. Onion, garlic, peppers and tomato go in first, then the stock and saffron, then the rice, which cooks without stirring while your guests chat. In Hove, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so summer evening events are usually served in daylight. For winter events, when it’s dark by about 3:55pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.

  1. First, you send us your date, venue, numbers and diets.
  2. We suggest a menu and confirm a quote, including what’s included.
  3. On the day we arrive in good time, set up and start the stock.
  4. Your guests watch the paella cook, with any tapas served first.
  5. It’s served straight from the pan, and we pack down afterwards.

How to prepare
