About the dishes

Black rice

Black rice gets its colour from squid ink, and is normally served with alioli. It is a striking addition to a seafood menu.

Seafood paella

The secret is a well-made seafood stock. Shellfish goes in towards the end so it stays tender.

Paella catering for your event in Holland Park

Everything is cooked from scratch on site, beginning with a sofrito of onion, garlic, peppers and tomato, followed by stock, saffron and rice. Popular choices include paella Valenciana, vegetable paella and black rice, and we are often booked for weddings, from canapés to evening food and staff parties and work lunches.

In Holland Park, events range from terrace gardens to hired halls. Tell us how close we can park and about any steps. We cook every pan in full view of your guests, so it arrives hot and becomes part of the event.

The process

Here’s how the day normally runs: we arrive, set up and start cooking, your guests watch the rice cook, and it’s served hot from the pan when you’re ready to eat. Around midsummer it stays light in Holland Park until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it is dark by about 3:55pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and any dietary needs.
  2. We put together a menu and a clear quote.
  3. On the day, we set up the burners and pans and get the stock going.
  4. The paella cooks in front of your guests, with tapas first if you’ve chosen them.
  5. It’s served straight from the pan, and we pack down afterwards.

How to prepare

  • Keep the cooking spot clear of fences, hedges and branches
  • Confirm numbers and diets before the day
  • Arrange parking near the cooking spot

Prices and what affects them

Here’s what makes the biggest difference to the price:

  • Guest numbers
  • Parking and unloading
  • Your choice of paellas
  • Extra courses such as canapés, tapas and dessert

Got a budget? Let us know, and we will suggest a menu to match. Even a simple menu can be a feast.

What we need to know

You do not need everything decided to ask for a quote, but it helps to know:

  • Your date and when you want to eat
  • The venue or postcode
  • What the venue already provides
  • Which courses you have in mind

Send us the date, your venue or W8 postcode and guest numbers, along with any dietary needs, and you’ll get a menu idea and a price. To get started, fill in our quote form.

Common questions in Holland Park

We are having a ceremony at Church of St George: can you cater afterwards?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall where we can cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is normally elsewhere. Send us the reception address.

What’s the nearest station to Holland Park for guests?

The closest is Kensington Olympia station, roughly 0.5 miles away.

Do you cater for coeliacs?

A gluten-free pan is no problem. Let us know about coeliac guests in advance so we take the right care.

Can you provide dessert?

We can add a dessert. Tell us what you have in mind when you ask for a quote.

Is live paella good for a large crowd?

Very much so. We size pans and serving points to your guest list.

Where do you cater?

London and South East England: Kent, Surrey, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight.

How many different paellas?

Normally two or three, so every guest has a choice. Tell us about your guests’ diets and we will suggest the mix.

What if the weather’s bad?

We cook under cover, like a gazebo or open-sided marquee. We’ll agree a wet-weather plan with you.

For planners, venues and organisers

Booking for a company? Tell us what your finance team needs, and we will talk you through the process. We’re happy to liaise with facilities on access and timings.

For big numbers, we plan pans and serving points to keep queues short, so guests are fed quickly. Let us know how long the food break is.

Who books paella catering in Holland Park?

It needs no kitchen, so it’s at home in gardens, fields and marquees where plated meals are hard.

Whatever the occasion, paella can be the star of the food. We frequently cook for:

  • Anniversary celebrations
  • Milestone birthday parties
  • Weddings, from canapés to evening food
  • Leaving dos and retirements

If you are organising a summer fair for a school like Holland Park School, a paella stall is a crowd-pleaser.

Choosing a paella caterer

Catering for every guest

We cater for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests. To get it right:

  • Mention any other courses or food
  • Plan seating for most guests: paella is easiest eaten sitting down
  • Choose two or three paellas so every guest has a choice
  • Request clear labels at the serving table

If you’ve booked staff, they’ll serve, clear and help keep things moving, so you can enjoy your guests.

Sangria and bar staff can be added for your own drinks.

Planning the cooking area

Every venue is different, so we will ask about yours when you get in touch. Generally, we look for:

  • A safe distance from anything that could catch
  • Parking close enough to carry equipment
  • Level ground for the pans and burners

As a London location, Holland Park is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and parking takes planning: tell us about parking bays, permits or a driveway.

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and we’ll say what we think.

Live paella or other catering?

A plated meal needs a kitchen, more staff and usually costs more per head. Live paella needs a level, ventilated spot and the venue’s permission to cook, and it is entertaining too. Compared with a plated meal, live paella is often good value, as there is no kitchen to hire and fewer staff to pay. We will send you a quote.
