Planning an event in Halnaker?

How our paella catering works in Halnaker

You can keep it simple or build a full menu: just paella, or paella with tapas, desserts and drinks. We’ll recommend what fits your event. We’re frequently asked to cater weddings, from canapés to evening food and garden parties and summer barbecues, serving seafood paella, black rice and vegetable paella.

In a small place like Halnaker, events are normally in a garden, a field or a nearby hall. Country lanes and long drives are no problem if we know about them, and cooking close to where we can park helps. Everything is cooked from scratch at your event, not reheated.

What paella catering costs

Every event is priced individually, based on a few main things:

  • Crockery and cutlery, or disposables
  • How long we are needed on site
  • Waiting and bar staff
  • How many courses

Larger events normally cost less per head, because the cooking set-up is similar for different sizes of event. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.

Getting an accurate quote

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what’s useful:

  • A picture of where we’d cook
  • Anything your venue supplies
  • The venue or postcode
  • Diets and allergies you know about

Getting a quote is simple: share your date, venue, numbers and diets. We’ll send a clear, itemised quote and a suggested menu.

Why choose paella catering in Halnaker?

Live paella is food and a show in one. The cooking becomes the centre of the event, and the food itself is hot and plentiful.

Whatever the occasion, live paella can be the centrepiece. We regularly cater:

  • Birthday celebrations
  • Office lunches and staff parties
  • Garden get-togethers
  • Anniversaries and engagement parties

Historic houses near Halnaker include Goodwood House (1.4 miles west) and West Dean House (4 miles north-west). Historic venues frequently limit cooking, so ask early if you are booking one.

What to look for in a quote

  • Allergen information for each dish
  • If the price includes VAT
  • How long the team stays
  • When payment is due

Questions from Halnaker

What’s the nearest station to Halnaker for guests?

The closest is Chichester station, roughly 3.8 miles away.

Is Halnaker too small for live paella?

No, we cook in small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and parking.

Is paella enough as a main?

Paella is a meal in itself. Tapas and desserts can be added if you like.

What about pudding?

We can add a dessert. Tell us what you have in mind in your enquiry.

Do you offer halal options?

Yes, we do. We use halal chicken and leave out pork and alcohol, in a separate pan.

Do you cover Halnaker?

Yes. We cater across London and the South East, including Halnaker. To check your date, send us your details through our quote form.

What areas do you cover?

We cover London and the South East, West Sussex included. See all areas.

Do you do starters?

Of course. Canapé tapas with the drinks, or table tapas to share, served while the paella cooks.

For event organisers in Halnaker

Many venues have rules for outside caterers: where cooking is allowed, access times and the paperwork they need. Tell us what your venue needs and we’ll work to it.

For big numbers, we plan pans and serving points to keep queues short, so everyone eats promptly. Tell us how long you have for food.

The menu, dish by dish

Paella Valenciana

Paella Valenciana is the original: chicken, beans and saffron, not seafood. It is a favourite with guests who do not eat fish.

Black rice

Black rice looks dramatic and tastes of the sea, and is popular with adventurous guests.

Planning the cooking area

Every venue is different, so we ask about the space when you contact us. Generally, we look for:

  • Parking close enough to carry equipment
  • Level ground for the pans and burners
  • Outdoor space or a ventilated gazebo

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before you book.

Menu ideas

  • Mixed paella
  • Paella Valenciana
  • Seafood paella
  • Black rice (arroz negro)
  • Vegetable paella
  • Chicken & chorizo paella
  • Vegan paella

DIY paella versus live catering

Doing it yourself saves money, but the host ends up stuck at the stove. With live paella catering, you get the theatre without the work.

If you do cook yourself, test the pan and burner together beforehand, have hot stock ready, and do not stir once the rice goes in. And keep children and pets well away from the burner.

How the day works

Once the rice is in, we don’t stir it. That is what gives paella its separate grains and crispy base. The smell normally draws people over. In Halnaker, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so summer evening events are normally served in daylight. For winter events, when it is dark by about 4:00pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.

  1. We start with a few details about your event.
  2. We suggest paellas and extras and send a clear quote.
  3. Timings, access and the cooking area are agreed in advance.
  4. On the day, we set up and cook in front of your guests.
  5. It’s served straight from the pan, and we clear our area afterwards.

Getting ready for the day

  • Let us know who to talk to on the day
  • Arrange parking near the cooking spot
  • Pick a flat, firm spot for us to cook

How to get a price
