Paella catering in Four Throws

Paella catering for your event in Four Throws

Paella was made for feeding a crowd: cooked outdoors in a wide, shallow pan and shared. That is exactly what we bring to your event in Four Throws. We are frequently asked to cater company summer parties and leaving dos and retirements, serving black rice, seafood paella and paella Valenciana.

Somewhere as small as Four Throws, a garden or field is frequently the venue. Tell us about narrow lanes or long drives and we’ll plan for them, and a firm spot near where we park makes set-up easier. The paella is served straight from the pan, so it is hot and generous, and a queue moves quickly.

Space, weather and the venue

Live paella is cooked over gas burners in large pans, so we need a suitable spot. These are the things we check:

  • Outdoor space or a ventilated gazebo
  • A level, firm spot for the burners and pans
  • Access for unloading near the cooking spot

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.

Popular choices

  • Mixed paella
  • Vegan paella
  • Black rice (arroz negro)
  • Chicken & chorizo paella
  • Vegetable paella
  • Seafood paella
  • Paella Valenciana

Working with your venue

If you’re organising for someone else, whether you’re a planner, an office manager or an event organiser, we are happy to deal with you and the venue directly. It saves passing messages back and forth.

If you run the same event each year, tell us your dates early, so we can plan ahead.

Dishes our guests love

Paella Valenciana

The original paella from Valencia is a countryside dish of chicken and vegetables, rather than seafood. It is often the most popular pan at an event.

Seafood paella

Prawns, mussels and squid in a rich fish stock, finished with lemon wedges. It’s generally the most photographed pan.

Live paella or other catering?

Plated meals need a kitchen and a bigger team. Live paella needs a level, ventilated spot and the venue’s permission to cook, and gives guests something to watch. If you have a budget in mind, tell us, and we will put together a menu that fits. A simple menu can still feel generous.

Why book with us

  • Plates, cutlery and waiting staff available
  • Every diet catered for, pan by pan
  • Cooking your guests will gather round to watch
  • We cover Four Throws and the whole of Kent

What happens on the day

From set-up to serving, we look after the food, so you can enjoy your event. Any tapas or canapés are served first as the rice is cooking. Evenings in Four Throws stay light until about 9:15pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:00pm; once it is dark, we need light to cook and serve by.

  1. Start with the date, the place and the numbers.
  2. Expect a menu idea and a clear, itemised price.
  3. Closer to the day, we confirm timings and the cooking spot.
  4. We set up, cook from scratch and keep an eye on your timings.
  5. We serve, then leave our area tidy.

Planning help

What paella catering costs

Every event is priced individually, and the price depends on a few things:

  • The length of service
  • Plates, cutlery and glassware
  • How many staff you need
  • Distance and access to the venue

Larger events normally cost less per head, because the cooking set-up is similar for different sizes of event. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.

Getting an accurate quote

To check availability and price, we need:

  • A picture of the space, if you can
  • The venue or postcode
  • Whether the venue has crockery or staff
  • Your date and when you want to eat

Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many guests, along with any dietary needs, and we’ll reply with a menu suggestion and a quote. Just send us your details through our quote form.

Four Throws: your questions answered

How far is Four Throws from London?

Roughly 42 miles from the centre of London, and well within our area.

We’re having a ceremony at Church of All Saints: can you cater afterwards?

Yes, at a garden, marquee or venue nearby with a suitable spot to cook. Live cooking normally happens at the reception venue, not the church. Send us the reception address.

Can you feed plenty of people?

It’s ideal. Big pans feed plenty of people, and service from the pan is quick.

Do you take everything away?

We pack down our cooking area after service. Waiting staff can clear tables if you book them.

Which paellas suit our guests?

Two or three is usual: a mixed or chicken paella, a seafood paella and a vegetable or vegan one. See the sample menu.

Do you do vegan paella?

Of course. Vegetarian and vegan paellas are cooked in separate pans, alongside the meat and seafood pans.

What space do you need to cook?

A level space for the pans, burners and a serving table, in the open air or a ventilated covered area, and the venue’s permission for live cooking.

Where do you cater?

London and the South East: Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight, including Four Throws.

Cook it yourself or book a caterer?

For a small group, cooking yourself can work well. For big numbers or lots of diets, a caterer makes life easier, and handles separate pans for each diet.

Cooking it yourself? Test your pan and burner first, have hot stock ready, and leave the rice alone once it is in. Keep a clear zone around the burner.

Planning for every diet

A little planning makes sure everyone can eat. Try these:

  • Confirm allergies by email
  • Tell us what else is being served
  • Tell us how many children are coming
  • Plan seating for most guests: paella is easiest eaten sitting down

Paella is best eaten as soon as it’s ready, so we plan service for when guests are ready to eat.

Add canapé tapas with the drinks or table tapas as a starter while the paella cooks.

  • Cooked live in giant pans at your event
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal options
  • Paella, tapas, canapés and desserts
  • Sangria, bar staff, crockery and waiting staff
