Live paella catering in Crouch

Paella catering in Crouch, cooked live

Watching it cook is part of the experience. People drift over as the sofrito sizzles and the rice turns gold, and the smell does the rest. We cook vegan paella, vegetable paella and chicken and chorizo paella, and typical bookings are for staff parties and work lunches and anniversary celebrations.

In a hamlet or village like Crouch, your own garden or a neighbour’s field can make a wonderful venue. Mention gates and soft ground when you get in touch. Everything is cooked from scratch at your event, not reheated, and served the moment it is ready.

Paella compared with other options

A plated meal needs a kitchen, more staff and normally costs more per head. Live paella needs only a level, ventilated spot and permission to cook, and it’s entertaining too. Live paella pricing depends on the event. A simple paella lunch costs less than a wedding with canapés, three paellas and waiting staff. Your quote spells it all out.

Why us?

  • Paella cooked from scratch on site
  • Cooking your guests will gather round to watch
  • Add tapas, canapés and Spanish desserts
  • Crockery and waiting staff if you need them

See Our pricing Or Our guide to catering costs.

Catering for every guest

A little planning makes sure everyone can eat. Here’s how:

  • Collect dietary needs with your RSVPs
  • Flag any coeliac guests, not just gluten-free preferences
  • Tell us what else is being served
  • Count adults and children separately

Once everyone is fed, we clear our cooking area.

Spanish desserts such as churros or crema catalana finish the meal, or serve your own cake.

Common questions in Crouch

Do you cater in the Kent Downs National Landscape?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about vehicles, ground and cooking, so check with yours. We’ll follow the site rules.

How far is Crouch from London?

About 47 miles from central London, and well within our area.

Should we have more than one paella?

Two or three is usual: a meat or mixed paella, a seafood paella and a vegetable or vegan one. We’ll help you decide the split.

Who clears up?

We pack down our cooking area after service. Clearing guests’ plates and tables can be added with waiting staff.

Do you cook inside?

Only in a suitable, well-ventilated area with the venue’s permission. Most events have us cooking outside or in a doorway or courtyard.

Do you cater for vegetarian guests?

Yes, and they’re popular with everyone. They have their own pans, stock and spoons.

Is halal food available?

Yes, we do. We use halal chicken and leave out pork and alcohol, in its own pan.

What areas do you cover?

London and South East England: Kent, Surrey, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight, including Crouch.

For planners, venues and organisers

Many venues have rules for outside caterers: cooking areas, access times and documents. Send us your venue’s requirements and we will follow them.

If you are organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a festival organiser, we’ll work directly with you and the venue. It saves passing messages back and forth.

Dishes our guests love

Vegetable and vegan paella

A slow sofrito, seasonal vegetables and a good vegetable stock make a proper main dish. For vegans, the stock is plant-based.

Seafood paella

Prawns, mussels and squid in a rich fish stock, cooked until the rice is golden. It is typically the most photographed pan.

Planning the cooking area

We will be honest if a space won’t work, and suggest an alternative. What matters most:

  • The venue’s permission for live cooking
  • Somewhere close to park and unload
  • Flat, firm ground for the cooking area

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and we’ll say what we think before you book.

What we offer

  • Mixed paella
  • Chicken & chorizo paella
  • Black rice (arroz negro)
  • Paella Valenciana
  • Seafood paella
  • Vegan paella
  • Vegetable paella

Prices and what affects them

Two events with the same number of guests can cost different amounts, depending on:

  • How many staff you need
  • Parking and unloading
  • Starters, canapés and desserts
  • Plates, cutlery and glassware

Live paella frequently compares well with a sit-down meal, because it needs no kitchen and fewer staff. Ask us for a quote.

Details that help

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what’s useful:

  • A picture of the space, if you can
  • The address or venue name
  • Whether you want canapés, tapas or desserts
  • Roughly how many adults and children

A detailed enquiry gets a more accurate quote: the venue, the timings, the courses you’d like and any extras. To send your details, use our quote form.

DIY paella versus live catering

If you do cook yourself, test the pan and burner together beforehand, have hot stock ready, and leave the rice alone once it is in. Keep a clear zone around the burner.

Hiring a pan and burner is one option, but you’ll still need to source ingredients, prep and cook for hours. A caterer handles all of that.

The process

The paella is cooked in huge, shallow pans over gas burners. We need a level, ventilated spot, which we agree with you beforehand. Around midsummer it stays light in Crouch until about 9:15pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:00pm, so summer evening events are typically served in daylight. For winter events, when it’s dark by about 3:50pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and venue.
  2. We plan a menu that covers every diet.
  3. We arrive early to set up the burners and pans.
  4. The paella cooks as guests gather round.
  5. Service is straight from the pan, then we pack down.

Preparing for the day

  • Make sure the spot is clear of anything flammable
  • Plan cover in case of rain
  • Confirm numbers and diets before the day
