Paella catering in Crockham Heath

Questions from Crockham Heath

Which station should guests use for Crockham Heath?

The closest is Newbury station, roughly 2.6 miles away.

We’re having a ceremony at Parish Church of St Michael: can you cater afterwards?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall where we can cook. Live cooking typically happens at the reception venue, not the church. Tell us where the reception will be.

Do you do starters?

Yes. Canapé tapas with the drinks, or table tapas to share, served while the paella cooks.

What space do you need to cook?

A level space for the pans, burners and a serving table, outdoors or in a marquee or well-ventilated area, plus the venue’s agreement to cooking.

What happens with live paella?

We arrive with pans, burners and ingredients, cook in front of your guests, and serve when you are ready to eat.

What equipment do you bring?

We bring all the cooking equipment. Tell us what the venue provides, such as tables or crockery.

Which paellas suit our guests?

Two or three is usual: a mixed or chicken paella, a seafood paella and a vegetable or vegan one. See the sample menu.

Does paella work for big events?

Yes. Big pans feed a lot of people, and service from the pan is quick.

Paella catering in Crockham Heath, made fresh on the day

Paella was made for feeding a crowd: cooked in the open in a big, shallow pan and shared straight from it. That’s exactly what we bring to your event in Crockham Heath. We’re often asked to cater leaving dos and retirements and christenings and family gatherings, with vegetable paella, mixed paella and vegan paella.

Somewhere as small as Crockham Heath, a garden or field is often the venue. Country lanes and long drives are no problem if we know about them, and a firm spot near where we park makes set-up easier. We serve straight from the pan, so it’s hot and generous, and service is quick once it’s ready.

The process

The cooking is part of the entertainment. Onion, garlic, peppers and tomato go in first, then the stock and saffron, then the rice, which cooks without stirring. Around midsummer it stays light in Crockham Heath until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it is dark by about 4:00pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.

  1. Start with the date, the place and the numbers.
  2. We come back with paellas to suit your guests, plus any extras.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm the plan.
  4. We set up, cook from scratch and keep an eye on your timings.
  5. We serve, then leave our area tidy.

Can I cook paella for a crowd myself?

Weighing up DIY against a caterer? Consider your numbers, your guests’ diets and your own time. Ask us for a quote and compare.

Doing it yourself saves money, but the host ends up stuck at the stove. With live paella catering, you get the theatre without the work.

What paella catering costs

Every event is priced individually, based on a few main things:

  • Extra courses such as canapés, tapas and dessert
  • Waiting and bar staff
  • Distance and access to the venue
  • Your choice of paellas

The price depends on your guest numbers, the menu and how many courses you choose, along with staff, extras and travel. Every event gets its own quote.

What we need to know

When you get in touch, it helps to tell us:

  • A photo of the space, if you can
  • The venue or postcode
  • Diets and allergies you know about
  • Whether the venue has crockery or staff

Not sure what you need yet? That is fine: give us the basics about your event, and we’ll make suggestions. To start, send us your details through our quote form.

Planning for every diet

Few dishes handle mixed diets as well as paella, because every paella has its own pan. Here are a few tips for planning:

  • Let us know if anyone has coeliac disease
  • Plan seating for most guests: paella is easiest eaten sitting down
  • Request clear labels at the serving table
  • Tell us how many children are coming

You shouldn’t have to worry about the food on the day. We set up, cook and serve, and keep in touch with you or your venue about timings.

Finish with churros, crema catalana or tarta de Santiago, or serve your own cake.
