Live paella catering in Canada

Paella catering for your event in Canada

Live paella works almost anywhere with a level, ventilated spot: gardens, marquees, barns, courtyards and festival fields in and around Canada. Popular choices include vegetable paella, vegan paella and seafood paella, and we’re frequently booked for weddings and evening receptions and anniversary celebrations.

In a rural place like Canada, the setting does plenty of the work: a huge pan in a garden or field fits perfectly. Let us know about access and ground conditions. The paella is served straight from the pan, so every plate is hot, and service is quick once it is ready.

Paella catering around Canada

Canada is about 5 miles north-west of Totton, in Hampshire. Give us the address of your event in Canada, and we’ll plan the journey and set-up before the day. Canada is one of 683 places in Hampshire where we cook. We cook right across the region, from Canada to Southampton (about 9 miles away).

If you’re organising a summer fair for a school like Wellow School, a paella stall is a crowd-pleaser. Nearby historic houses include Landford Manor (2 miles north-west). Historic venues frequently limit cooking, so ask early if you are booking one. The New Forest National Park is within about 7 miles of Canada, and country venues and gardens there suit live paella perfectly. Check your venue’s rules on vehicles and cooking.

Here we cover the SO51 postcode area. Close by, we cover events in West Wellow (1 mile north), Blackhill (1 mile east), East Wellow (1 mile east), Newbridge (2 miles south) and Plaitford Green (2 miles north). Larger places within reach include Winchester (14 miles north-east), Eastleigh (11 miles east), Totton (5 miles south-east), Chandler's Ford (9 miles east), Hedge End (13 miles east) and Lymington (14 miles south).

Nearby you will also find Tatchbury Mount Hospital (3.5 miles south-east). Green spaces nearby include Copythorne Common.

Can I cook paella for a crowd myself?

Cooking paella for a crowd yourself is possible, but it’s harder than it looks. A big pan needs a burner that heats it evenly, and getting the rice right for dozens of people takes experience. Read how to cook paella for a crowd.

If you do cook yourself, test the pan and burner together beforehand, keep the stock hot, and leave the rice alone once it is in. Keep a clear zone around the burner.

Canada: your questions answered

Which station should guests use for Canada?

Romsey station, about 4.6 miles north-east of the centre.

Do you cater in the New Forest National Park?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules; ask your venue. We’ll follow the site rules.

Will there be enough food?

We plan quantities from your guest numbers, timings and other courses, with a sensible margin. Accurate numbers help.

Do you take everything away?

We pack down our cooking area after service. Waiting staff can clear tables if you book them.

What do you need at the venue?

A level space for the pans, burners and a serving table, in the open air or a ventilated covered area, and the venue’s permission for live cooking.

Do you cater for coeliacs?

We can, if you tell us in advance. Rice is naturally gluten-free, but stock and some ingredients may not be, so we make a separate gluten-free pan.

Do you have a kids’ option?

Of course. Children often love a simple chicken paella. Include children in your numbers.

Can you serve drinks?

Sangria, yes. For other drinks, we can provide bar staff to serve what you buy.

What happens on the day

When we arrive, we set up our cooking area, light the burners and start the sofrito. Once the rice goes in, it takes about 20 minutes, so the timing is planned around your event. Around midsummer it stays light in Canada until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 4:00pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.

  1. We start with a few details about your event.
  2. You get a menu and an itemised quote.
  3. Timings, access and the cooking area are agreed in advance.
  4. On the day, we set up and cook in front of your guests.
  5. We serve from the pan, then pack down.

What paella catering costs

Your quote will be clear and itemised. What affects it most:

  • Plates, cutlery and glassware
  • Timings and hours
  • Guest numbers
  • Distance and access to the venue

Seafood and premium ingredients cost more than chicken or vegetable paellas, so your choice of paellas affects the total. We will suggest options to suit your budget.

What to tell us

Here’s what makes a quick, accurate quote possible:

  • The date and time of the event
  • Roughly how many adults and children
  • A photo of the cooking space, if it is a garden or field
  • The address or venue name

Still deciding on the menu? That is fine: give us the basics about your event, and we will suggest a menu. Start when you’re ready: use our quote form.

  • Outdoor space or a ventilated gazebo
  • Clearance from fences, hedges, branches and anything flammable

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before booking.

Dietary needs and planning tips

Most events have a mix of diets. To plan for them:

  • Ask about diets and allergies on your invitation or RSVP
  • Have seats for most of your guests
  • Count adults and children separately
  • Flag any coeliac guests, not just gluten-free preferences

Once everyone is fed, we clear our cooking area, quietly and quickly.

Bread, salad and lemon go well alongside and suit guests who are not big rice eaters.

Live paella or other catering?

A cold buffet is simple but has no theatre, and food can sit out for a while. Paella is cooked in front of your guests and served hot. The cost per head usually falls as numbers rise, since the set-up is much the same either way. Give us your numbers and we will quote.

Why book with us

  • Waiting staff and crockery on request
  • Sangria, plus bar staff for your own drinks
  • Live cooking, not reheated food
  • Every diet catered for, pan by pan
