Planning an event in Asheridge?

About our paella catering in Asheridge

Live paella catering means we bring the pans, burners and fresh ingredients to your event and cook in front of your guests. Once it’s ready, we serve it hot from the pan. We’re frequently asked to cater anniversary celebrations and garden parties and summer barbecues, with paella Valenciana, black rice and vegetable paella.

Somewhere as small as Asheridge, a garden or field is frequently the venue. Tell us about narrow lanes or long drives and we’ll plan for them, and cooking close to where we can park helps. Everything is cooked from scratch at your event, never made in advance and reheated.

Why live cooking beats a buffet

For something a little different, live paella adds colour, smell and theatre to your event in Asheridge. Cost depends on guest numbers, the menu and the courses, plus any staff, crockery and travel. We quote for each event individually.

About the dishes

Seafood paella

Prawns, mussels and squid in a rich fish stock, finished with lemon wedges. It is the pan people photograph.

Mixed paella

Paella mixta combines meat and seafood in one pan, and it is often the first pan to empty.

Planning for every diet

Paella is one of the easiest dishes for mixed diets, because each paella is cooked in its own pan. Here are a few tips for planning:

  • Make sure each pan is labelled
  • Send allergies to us in writing
  • Let us know if anyone has coeliac disease
  • Plan seating for most guests: paella is easiest eaten sitting down

After service, we pack down our cooking area, quietly and quickly.

We can add sangria and bar staff to serve drinks you provide.

Cook it yourself or book a caterer?

A DIY paella party works for small groups. For big numbers or lots of diets, a caterer makes life easier, and handles separate pans for each diet.

DIY catering keeps costs down, but the host spends the party cooking. With live paella catering, you get the theatre without the work.

How we price paella catering

The price comes down to a few factors:

  • Starters, canapés and desserts
  • Timings and hours
  • Your choice of paellas
  • Staff: cooks, waiting staff and bar staff

Travel, parking and access can affect the price, so tell us about the venue when you ask for a quote. Everything is confirmed in writing.

Details that help

You do not need every detail fixed to get a quote, but it helps to know:

  • Diets and allergies you know about
  • Where the event is
  • Anything your venue supplies
  • Your date and when you want to eat

Events we cater in Asheridge

There is no kitchen needed, so it works in gardens, fields and marquees where other catering struggles.

These are some of the occasions we cater:

  • Summer garden parties
  • Office lunches and staff parties
  • Retirement and leaving parties
  • Anniversaries and engagement parties

If you are organising a summer fair for a school like Chartridge Combined School, a paella stall is a crowd-pleaser.

Comparing caterers

  • Space, access and power needs
  • When payment is due
  • How bad weather is handled
  • Whether crockery, cutlery and napkins are included

Choosing a paella caterer

The process

The paella is cooked in huge, shallow pans over gas burners. It needs a level spot with some shelter and good ventilation, and we agree where that is before the day. In Asheridge, the sun sets at about 9:25pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and any dietary needs.
  2. We suggest a menu and confirm a quote, including what’s included.
  3. On the day, we set up the burners and pans and get the stock going.
  4. The rice cooks in full view, while tapas or canapés go round.
  5. We serve from the pan, then clear our cooking area away.

Getting ready for the day

  • Plan cover in case of rain
  • Pick a flat, firm spot for us to cook
  • Confirm the venue is happy with live cooking

Questions from Asheridge

What’s the nearest station to Asheridge for guests?

Great Missenden station, about 3.6 miles south-west of the centre.

Can you cater a reception after a service at St John's Church?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall where we can cook. Live cooking generally happens at the reception venue, not the church. Send us the reception address.

How many paellas should we have?

Generally two or three, so every guest has a choice. We’ll recommend a mix based on diets.

What seafood can we have?

We’ll suggest seafood to suit your menu and budget. Premium shellfish can be added.

Do you provide drinks?

Yes, sangria. We can also supply bar staff for your own drinks.

Can you cook halal paella?

Yes, on request. Tell us how many guests need halal food, and it is cooked separately.

Is the paella cooked on site?

It is. We arrive with everything we need and cook on the day, then serve straight from the pan.

Do you cater in Asheridge?

Yes, we do. Asheridge is one of the places we cover. Tell us your date and we will check availability.

Space, weather and the venue

Safety and good cooking both depend on the spot we use. We look for:

  • Flat, firm ground for the cooking area
  • Outdoor space or a ventilated gazebo
  • The venue’s permission for live cooking

If you are unsure, send a photo of the space and we will say what we think.
