Wedding paella catering in Marehill

Wedding paella catering in Marehill, cooked live

The smell of saffron and garlic drifting across a garden or barn has everyone looking forward to dinner long before it’s served. We are often asked to cater sharing-style wedding meals and weddings with mixed diets, serving table tapas, a paella wedding breakfast and evening paella.

A wedding in a small place like Marehill often means a field, a barn or a family garden. Live paella is made for that: no kitchen needed, just a level, sheltered spot. Let us know about access and ground. Tapas, canapés, desserts, sangria and staff can all be added, so the whole menu comes from one caterer.

Is live paella right for your wedding?

Food trucks serve one order at a time, which can mean long queues at a wedding. Paella is served quickly to many guests. Tapas, desserts, sangria, staff and crockery are optional extras, so you can choose exactly what you need.

Planning the cooking area

Safety and good cooking both depend on the spot we use. We look for:

  • Access for unloading near the cooking spot
  • Open air or a well-ventilated covered spot
  • A cooking spot outside the marquee, not inside it

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

What wedding paella catering costs

Your quote will be clear and itemised. The main things that affect it are:

  • How many guests are eating
  • Waiting and bar staff
  • Timings and hours
  • The paellas you choose

When you compare quotes, check what each one includes: staff, crockery, bread and salads, travel and VAT. We itemise ours.

What to tell us

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what to include:

  • Where the event is
  • Whether the venue has crockery or staff
  • Expected numbers
  • A picture of where we’d cook

We need only a few details to quote: the date, where the event is, how many guests and any dietary needs. You can send us your details through our quote form.

Questions from Marehill

Can you cater a reception after a service at Wiggonholt Church?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall where we can cook. Live cooking usually happens at the reception venue, not the church. Send us the reception address.

Is Marehill too small for live paella?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and parking.

Do you cater for vegetarian guests?

Yes, and they’re popular with everyone. They have their own pans, stock and spoons.

Do you clear up afterwards?

We pack down our cooking area after service. Waiting staff can clear tables if you book them.

What happens if it rains?

We cook under cover, like a gazebo or open-sided marquee. We plan for rain with you in advance.

Can you cook indoors?

Mostly outside or under an open cover, because we use gas burners. We’ll check whether your venue has a suitable space.

When should we book?

As early as you can, especially for summer weekends. Even if it is short notice, it is worth asking.

How long does the paella take?

We get there in good time to set up. Once the rice goes in, it takes about 20 minutes, and we time it to your schedule.

Our caterer checklist

Organising for someone else?

If you’re planning an event on someone’s behalf, whether you are a planner, an office manager or an event organiser, we are happy to deal with you and the venue directly. It saves passing messages back and forth.

Booking for a company? Tell us what your finance team needs, and we’ll explain how it works. We can work with your facilities team on access and timings.

DIY paella versus live catering

Not sure whether to cook yourself or book a caterer? Consider your numbers, your guests’ diets and your own time. We’re happy to give you a quote to compare.

If you do cook yourself, test the pan and burner together beforehand, keep the stock hot, and don’t stir once the rice goes in. Keep a clear zone around the burner.

Step by step

Serving is fast: we serve straight from the pan, so even a long queue moves. Afterwards we clear our cooking area away. In Marehill, midsummer sunset is about 9:20pm, and by late September it’s nearer 7:05pm, which means evening paella is generally served in daylight in June and July. For autumn and winter weddings, when it is dark by about 3:55pm in December, plan lighting for the cooking area.

  1. We start with your date, venue, numbers and ideas.
  2. We plan a menu with you, course by course, and confirm a quote.
  3. Timings are agreed with you and the venue, around speeches and photos.
  4. On the day we set up, cook live and serve each course as planned.
  5. Afterwards we clear our area; any staff you’ve booked stay as planned.

Getting ready for the day

  • Check the venue allows live cooking
  • Pick a flat, firm spot for us to cook
  • Keep the cooking spot clear of fences, hedges and branches
