Wedding paella catering in Durfold Wood, made fresh on the day

We can do the whole day or just one part: canapés, a tapas starter, a paella wedding breakfast, evening food and dessert. For weddings with a Spanish theme and rustic barn weddings, we’ll put together a menu of Spanish desserts, evening paella and canapé tapas for your guests.

A wedding in a small place like Durfold Wood often means a field, a barn or a family garden. Live paella is made for that: no kitchen needed, just a level, sheltered spot. Tell us about lanes, gates and ground conditions. All the cooking equipment comes with us, and we clear our cooking area away afterwards.

Can I cook paella for a crowd myself?

Some hosts like to cook themselves. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather be with your guests, we will do the cooking.

You can cook paella for a crowd yourself, but it takes practice. Large pans need the right burners, and getting the rice right for dozens of people takes experience. Our guide to cooking paella for a crowd explains how.

How the day works

A typical event goes like this: we set up the pans and start the sofrito, the rice cooks in front of your guests, and it’s served hot from the pan at the agreed time. In Durfold Wood, midsummer sunset is about 9:20pm, and by late September it’s nearer 7:05pm, which means evening paella is normally served in daylight in June and July. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it’s dark by about 3:55pm.

  1. Send us your wedding date, venue and numbers.
  2. Together we plan each course.
  3. Timings are agreed with your venue.
  4. On the day, we cook and serve each course.
  5. We pack down, and staff stay as agreed.

Preparing for the day

  • Have a gazebo or cover ready if rain is likely
  • Keep the cooking spot clear of fences, hedges and branches

Durfold Wood questions

Can you cook at venues in the Surrey Hills National Landscape?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules; ask your venue. We will follow the site rules.

Which station should guests use for Durfold Wood?

Witley station, about 4.5 miles north-west of the centre.

What if our speeches run late?

We plan for it. We time the rice to the actual running order, so it is ready when you are.

Do you take everything away?

Our cooking area is packed away and left clean. Ask us about table clearing if you need it.

What if the weather’s bad?

We need a covered spot, like a gazebo or open-sided marquee. We will agree a wet-weather plan with you.

Can you cater the whole day?

Any part of the day, or all of it, from canapés to evening food.

Will there be enough food?

We size the pans for your numbers and the rest of the menu. Tell us what else is being served. See how much paella per person.

When should we book?

Early, particularly for summer Saturdays. Even if it’s short notice, it’s worth asking.

What we need at the venue

Most outdoor spaces and many venues work for live paella, but a few things matter:

  • Agreement from the venue or landowner to cook on site
  • Space well away from trees, fences and gazebo walls
  • Somewhere close to park and unload

If you are unsure, send a photo of the space and we’ll say what we think.
