About our wedding paella catering in Burgh Hill

A paella wedding makes mixed diets simple: every paella is cooked separately, so every guest gets a proper hot main. For wedding receptions after a small ceremony and evening wedding food, we will put together a menu of Spanish desserts, canapé tapas and table tapas.

There is something special about a country wedding near Burgh Hill, and paella cooking in the open air adds to it. Plan access and cover in case of rain. Every pan is cooked in front of your guests, so it arrives hot and becomes part of the event.

Most outdoor spaces and many venues work for live paella, but there are a few things to check:

  • Outdoor space or a ventilated gazebo
  • A cooking spot outside the marquee, not inside it
  • Parking close enough to carry equipment

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and we will say what we think before you book.

How the day works

Expect a friendly, organised team. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, set up the pans and burners, and get on with cooking and serving. In Burgh Hill, midsummer sunset is about 9:15pm, and by late September it’s nearer 7:00pm, which means evening paella is normally served in daylight in June and July. For autumn and winter weddings, when it is dark by about 3:55pm in December, plan lighting for the cooking area.

  1. Share your date, venue, numbers and plans for the day.
  2. We build the menu course by course and send a quote.
  3. We fit our timings around your speeches, photos and venue.
  4. We cook live on the day and serve every course on cue.
  5. We clear our cooking area, and staff stay as agreed.

How to prepare

  • Get the venue’s permission for cooking
  • Let us know the timings for the day

Working with your venue

Throwing a party at home? Send a picture of the space and tell us about parking, and we’ll tell you honestly whether live paella will work.

For repeat events, such as annual staff parties or seasonal fairs, let us know your dates early, so we can hold the date.

Diets, allergies and planning

Paella is one of the easiest dishes for mixed diets, because each paella is cooked in its own pan. A few tips:

  • Ask about diets and allergies with your RSVPs
  • Pick a serving style
  • Tell us when speeches will be
  • Include any suppliers you are feeding

Guests can queue at the pans, or staff can serve the tables.

We can provide crockery and waiting staff.

Questions from Burgh Hill

Is Burgh Hill close to London?

About 41 miles from central London.

Do you cater in the High Weald National Landscape?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules; ask your venue. We will follow the site rules.

How do you work out quantities?

Quantities depend on numbers, timing and courses, with a sensible margin. Accurate numbers help.

When should we book?

The sooner the better. Peak dates go quickly, so contact us early.

Do you have a kids’ option?

Children are welcome. Let us know numbers and ages, and we will plan a pan with them in mind.

What space do you need to cook?

Less than you might think: a level spot clear of fences, hedges and branches, with room for a serving table. If in doubt, send a photo.

What areas do you cover?

London and South East England: Kent, Surrey, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight.

Is the paella gluten-free?

We can cook a gluten-free paella in its own pan. Tell us about any coeliac guests when you book so we can plan it carefully.

What affects the price in Burgh Hill

Every event is priced individually, and the price depends on a few things:

  • How many guests are eating
  • Staff: cooks, waiting staff and bar staff
  • Your choice of paellas
  • How long we are needed on site

When you compare quotes, check what each one includes: staff, crockery, bread and salads, travel and VAT. Our quotes spell it all out.

Getting an accurate quote

You don’t need everything decided to ask for a quote, but it helps to know:

  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal and allergy numbers
  • Approximate guest numbers, including children
  • The address or venue name
  • A picture of where we’d cook

A detailed enquiry gets a more accurate quote: the venue, the timings, the courses you’d like and any extras. When you’re ready, fill in our quote form.

DIY paella versus live catering

Weighing up DIY against a caterer? Consider your numbers, your guests’ diets and your own time. Ask us for a quote and compare.

If you do cook yourself, test the pan and burner together beforehand, keep the stock hot, and leave the rice alone once it’s in. And keep children and pets well away from the burner.
