Prices and what affects them

The price comes down to a few factors:

  • Whether you need crockery
  • Travel, parking and access
  • How many staff you need
  • Starters, canapés and desserts

Larger events usually cost less per head, since the set-up is much the same either way. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.

Getting an accurate quote

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what’s useful:

  • Anything your venue supplies
  • Expected numbers
  • A photo of the cooking space, if it’s a garden or field
  • Whether you want canapés, tapas or desserts

Each quote is tailored to your event. Give us your date and numbers, and we will confirm whether we’re available that day.

Tapas catering for your event in Shootash

Tapas and paella go hand in hand, as a starter while the rice cooks, but they’re great on their own. We are frequently asked to cater canapés with welcome drinks and receptions and drinks parties, serving padrón peppers, Serrano ham and patatas bravas.

In a rural spot like Shootash, tapas can be served in a garden, barn or marquee. Every pan is cooked in front of your guests, so the food is hot, fresh and part of the occasion.

FAQs for Shootash

Can you cater a reception after a service at Church of All Saints?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall where we can cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is typically elsewhere. Tell us where the reception will be.

Which station should guests use for Shootash?

The closest is Romsey station, roughly 2.4 miles away.

Can you serve drinks?

We can make sangria, and we can staff a bar with your drinks.

Can you serve tapas as well?

Yes, and it is a popular combination. Tapas go out first, then the paella.

What does tapas catering cost?

We quote for each event, so you only pay for what you need. Tell us your date and numbers and we’ll reply with a price.

Do you cook it at the event?

It is. We arrive with everything we need and cook it there and then, serving it hot from the pan.

Are the tapas fresh?

Yes, hot dishes are finished at the venue.

How do you work out quantities?

We plan quantities from your guest numbers, timings and other courses, with a sensible margin. Give us accurate numbers for the best result.

How the day works

The paella is cooked in giant, shallow pans over gas burners. It needs a level spot with some shelter and good ventilation, and we agree where that is before the day. At midsummer, it’s light in Shootash until about 9:25pm, perfect for canapés outdoors. In late September, sunset is about 7:10pm; winter receptions, dark by 4:00pm, are better indoors.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and how you want the tapas served.
  2. You get a suggested selection and a price.
  3. On the day we arrive, set up and finish the hot tapas on site.
  4. Canapés circulate with drinks, or tapas go to the tables.
  5. We clear away our equipment when service is finished.

Preparing for the day

  • Arrange a covered spot for wet weather
  • Share the running order, including any speeches
  • Make sure we can park close by to unload

DIY paella versus live catering

You can cook paella for a crowd yourself, but it takes practice. Large pans need the right burners, and getting the rice right at scale is tricky. Our guide to cooking paella for a crowd explains how.

Plenty of people try cooking paella for their own party. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather enjoy the party, let us cook.

Working with your venue

For big numbers, we plan pans and serving points to keep queues short, so everyone eats promptly. Let us know how long the food break is.

If you’re booking for a business, tell us how you’d like to handle the booking and payment, and we will explain how it works. We are happy to liaise with facilities on access and timings.

Is live paella right for your event?

Tapas can be a starter, a reception or the whole meal, which makes them easy to plan around. If you have a budget in mind, tell us, and we’ll put together a menu that fits. Even a simple menu can be a feast.
