Can I cook paella for a crowd myself?

Cooking it yourself? Test your pan and burner first, keep the stock hot, and do not stir once the rice goes in. And keep children and pets well away from the burner.

Hiring a pan and burner is one option, but there’s shopping, prep and hours of cooking. We take care of all of it.

Common questions in Otterbourne

What’s the nearest station to Otterbourne for guests?

Shawford station, about 1.1 miles north-east of the centre.

Is Otterbourne close to London?

About 64 miles from central London, and well within our area.

Can you do sangria?

Sangria, yes. We can also supply bar staff for your own drinks.

Will there be enough food?

Pans are sized to your numbers and other courses. Let us know about any other food. See how much paella per person.

What do you need at the venue?

Not a lot: a flat spot away from anything flammable, with space to serve. If in doubt, send a picture.

Can you bring crockery?

We can. Tell us what your venue provides and we will include the rest in the quote.

How do you work out quantities?

It depends on whether they’re a starter, canapés or the whole meal. Tell us about the event and we will suggest quantities.

Do you cater in Otterbourne?

Yes. We cater across London and the South East, including Otterbourne and the rest of Hampshire. For a quote, use our quote form.

Prices and what affects them

Each event is quoted on its own, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Plates, cutlery and glassware
  • Extra courses such as canapés, tapas and dessert
  • Chicken, vegetable or premium seafood
  • Staff: cooks, waiting staff and bar staff

When you compare quotes, check what each one includes: staff, crockery, bread and salads, travel and VAT. Our quotes spell it all out.

What to tell us

For a quote, it helps to have:

  • The venue or postcode
  • Which courses you have in mind
  • Whether the venue has crockery or staff
  • Your date and when you want to eat

Every quote is put together for your event. Tell us your date and guest numbers, and we will confirm whether we’re available that day.

Is live paella right for your event?

Plated starters need a kitchen. Table tapas are shared and relaxed. Larger events generally cost less per head, since the set-up is much the same either way. Give us your numbers and we’ll quote.

Why book with us

  • Add tapas, canapés and Spanish desserts
  • Separate pans for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests
  • A quote that spells everything out
  • Sangria and bar staff available

Read Our prices page And What paella catering costs.

Planning the cooking area

Safety and good cooking both depend on the spot we use. We look for:

  • Room on tables for sharing dishes
  • An area to prepare hot tapas
  • Permission from the venue

Not sure about your space? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly.

Planning a tapas spread in Otterbourne

Otterbourne is about 3 miles north-east of Chandler's Ford, in Hampshire. From the centre of Otterbourne to the outskirts, tapas catering works the same way: paella cooked live, every diet catered for and a clear quote. Otterbourne is one of 683 towns and villages in Hampshire where we cook. Our events stretch from Otterbourne to Southampton (about 7 miles away).

If you are looking at a historic venue around Otterbourne, check its catering rules early, as many limit cooking. For guests coming by train, Shawford station is about 1.1 miles away.

We cover events in every part of SO21 and the streets around it. Local streets include Oakwood Avenue, Meadowcroft Close and Brooklyn Close; an event at home on any of them works well with live paella. Nearby, we also cater events in South Down (1 mile north-east), Compton (1 mile north), Shawford (1 mile north-east), Twyford (1 mile north-east) and Ladwell (2 miles west). We also cook in nearby towns such as Winchester (4 miles north), Eastleigh (3 miles south), Fareham (13 miles south-east), Andover (15 miles north-west), Totton (9 miles south-west) and Chandler's Ford (3 miles south-west).

Nearby you’ll also find Eastleigh Museum (2.9 miles south) and Wolvesey Castle (3.8 miles north). Green spaces nearby include Twyford Down and Shawford Down.

The process

The paella is cooked in huge, shallow pans over gas burners. It needs a level spot with some shelter and good ventilation, which we agree with you beforehand. At midsummer, it is light in Otterbourne until about 9:25pm, perfect for canapés outdoors. By late September it is dark around 7:10pm, and in December by about 4:00pm.

  1. We check your date.
  2. You pick the style.
  3. We set up on arrival.
  4. Hot and cold tapas are served.
  5. Afterwards, we clear up.

How to prepare

  • Send us final numbers and dietary needs in good time
  • Let us know the timings for the day
  • Confirm the venue is happy with live cooking
