The process

We cook over gas burners in wide, shallow pans. It needs a level spot with some shelter and good ventilation, which we agree with you beforehand. At midsummer, it is light in Monk's Hill until about 9:15pm, perfect for canapés outdoors. In late September, sunset is about 7:00pm; winter receptions, dark by 3:50pm, are better indoors.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and how you want the tapas served.
  2. You get a suggested selection and a price.
  3. We arrive, set up and finish hot dishes on site.
  4. We serve canapés with drinks or set table tapas down to share.
  5. We clear away our equipment when service is finished.

Planning help

Should I cook it myself?

For a small group, cooking yourself can work well. For big numbers or lots of diets, a caterer makes life easier, and keeps vegetarian and allergy-safe pans separate.

You can cook paella for a crowd yourself, but it takes practice. Large pans need the right burners, and getting the rice right for dozens of people takes experience. Read how to cook paella for a crowd.

Paella compared with other options

For food that gets people mingling, tapas work brilliantly. If you have a budget in mind, tell us, and we’ll put together a menu that fits. A simple menu can still feel generous.

Extras such as tapas, desserts, sangria, staff and crockery are priced separately, so you can choose exactly what you need.

How to compare caterers

Your questions about tapas catering in Monk's Hill

Is Monk's Hill too small for live paella?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and parking.

How far is Monk's Hill from London?

About 41 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

Who clears up?

We clear our cooking area away when service is finished. Waiting staff can clear tables if you book them.

Will there be enough food?

Quantities depend on numbers, timing and courses, with a sensible margin. Give us accurate numbers for the best result.

Is the paella gluten-free?

We can, if you tell us in advance. The rice is gluten-free, but stocks and chorizo can contain gluten, so we cook a gluten-free paella separately.

Can you provide dessert?

We can add a dessert. Tell us what you have in mind when you ask for a quote.

Can you supply plates?

Yes, on request. Proper crockery or quality disposables can be added to your booking.

What space do you need to cook?

Not a lot: a flat spot away from anything flammable, with space to serve. Send us a picture if you’re not sure.
