Paella catering in RH9

Our paella catering in RH9

You can keep it simple or build a full menu: paella on its own, or with canapés, table tapas, desserts and sangria. We will recommend what fits your event. We are often asked to cater big birthdays and fairs, fêtes and festivals, with vegan paella, chicken and chorizo paella and mixed paella.

A typical event goes like this: we set up the pans and start the sofrito, the rice cooks in front of your guests, and we serve straight from the pan when you’re ready to eat.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and venue.
  2. We plan the menu with you, including every diet.
  3. We arrive early to set up the burners and pans.
  4. The sofrito, stock and rice go in, and guests gather to watch.
  5. We serve hot from the pan and clear our cooking area.

What you’ll pay

Tapas, desserts, sangria, staff and crockery are optional extras, so you only pay for what you want.

Live paella across RH9: what to know

RH9 covers everything from Holmethorpe, Godstone and Blindley Heath to 8 small villages and hamlets, and live paella suits every kind of setting. In towns, plan parking and access; in villages, tell us about lanes and ground.

Godstone: Nearby historic houses include Titsey Place (4.1 miles north-east). If your event is at a historic house or estate, check its rules on caterers and cooking early. If you’re celebrating after a service at a church like Church of St Nicholas, live paella at a garden or venue nearby works well. In Godstone, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so summer evening events are usually served in daylight. For winter events, when it’s dark by about 3:55pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.

The menu, dish by dish

Mixed paella

Mixed paella brings meat and seafood together, and it’s often the first pan to empty.

Paella Valenciana

The original paella from Valencia is a countryside dish of chicken and vegetables, rather than seafood. It is a favourite with guests who don’t eat fish.

Prices and what affects them

There is nothing hidden: the price is based on:

  • How long we’re needed on site
  • How many courses
  • Waiting and bar staff
  • Parking and unloading

The cost per head typically falls as numbers rise, because the cooking set-up is similar for different sizes of event. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.

What to tell us

Good planning starts with a few facts. Please include:

  • The address or venue name
  • Expected numbers
  • The courses you’d like
  • The date and rough timings

Planning for every diet

With a little notice, every diet is easy. Our advice:

  • Request clear labels at the serving table
  • Tell us about coeliac guests specifically
  • Count adults and children separately
  • Let us know about other food at the event

The rice takes about 20 minutes once it goes in, so we start it at the right moment for your event. If timings shift, we adapt.

Crockery, cutlery and waiting staff are available if your venue doesn’t provide them.

Should I cook it myself?

You can hire equipment and do it yourself, but you will still need to source ingredients, prep and cook for hours. A caterer handles all of that.

Some hosts like to cook themselves. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather be with your guests, we will do the cooking.

What we need at the venue

Before the day, we will agree where we cook. A good spot ticks these boxes:

  • A level, firm spot for the burners and pans
  • Clearance from fences, hedges, branches and anything flammable
  • Confirmation that open cooking is allowed

RH9 questions

Do you cook inside?

Only in a suitable, well-ventilated area with the venue’s permission. Courtyards, doorways and terraces frequently work.

What about pudding?

We can add a dessert. Let us know if you’d like one in your enquiry.

What happens with live paella?

We arrive with pans, burners and ingredients, cook in front of your guests, and serve at the time you want.

Can you serve tapas as well?

Yes. Canapés with drinks or tapas for the tables, served while the paella cooks.

What equipment do you bring?

We bring the pans, burners and ingredients. You provide a suitable spot and access.

Do you do vegan paella?

Yes. Vegetarian and vegan paellas are cooked in separate pans, alongside the meat and seafood pans.

Which paellas suit our guests?

That depends on who’s coming. Chicken and mixed paellas tend to go first, with seafood and vegetable pans alongside.
