Cook it yourself or book a caterer?

Not sure whether to cook yourself or book a caterer? Consider your numbers, your guests’ diets and your own time. Ask us for a quote and compare.

Some hosts like to cook themselves. Common mistakes are mismatched pans and burners, overfilling and stirring. If you’d rather be with your guests, we will do the cooking.

Dishes our guests love

Vegetable paella

Vegetarians get a real main course.

Seafood paella

Prawns, mussels and squid in a rich stock, for the fish lovers.

How it works

We work to your timings. If speeches run late or the photos take longer, we hold the paella at the right stage so it is still served fresh. For a late-May party in Wych Cross, sunset is around 8:50pm; at midsummer it’s about 9:20pm. If the party runs past dark, we’ll need light where we cook and serve.

  1. Send us your date, address and numbers.
  2. We suggest paellas and extras and send a quote.
  3. We set up before guests arrive.
  4. Guests watch the paella cook.
  5. We serve from the pan and pack down.

Before we arrive

  • Have a gazebo or cover ready if rain is likely
  • Confirm the venue is happy with live cooking
  • Pick a flat, firm spot for us to cook

Catering for every guest

Good planning keeps every guest safe and happy. Here’s how:

  • Make sure children stay back from the pans
  • Have cover ready for a shower
  • Plan seats for most guests
  • Warn the neighbours

At food time, we serve straight from the pan.

Churros and chocolate go down well with all ages.

Wych Cross parties: what to know

Wych Cross is about 4 miles south-east of East Grinstead, in East Sussex. We cater parties at homes, gardens and venues in Wych Cross and the surrounding area. Wych Cross is one of 289 towns and villages in East Sussex where we cook. Our events stretch from Wych Cross to Brighton (about 18 miles away).

If guests are coming by rail, East Grinstead station is about 4.5 miles away. The High Weald National Landscape is within about 2 miles of Wych Cross, so many gardens around here have a great outlook.

We cater parties across RH18 and the streets around it. Local streets include Lewes Road and Wych Cross; a party at home on any of them works well with live paella. Before you choose a spot

Most outdoor spaces and many venues work for live paella, but a few things matter:

  • Good ventilation: outdoors, or an open-sided cover
  • A level, firm spot for the burners and pans
  • Confirmation that open cooking is allowed

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

How we price paella party catering

These are the factors that matter most:

  • Crockery and cutlery, or disposables
  • How many guests are eating
  • The paellas you choose
  • Waiting and bar staff

Comparing caterers? Look at what each quote includes: staff, crockery, bread and salads, travel and VAT. We itemise ours.

Details that help

For a quote, it helps to have:

  • The venue or postcode
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal and allergy numbers
  • Whether you want canapés, tapas or desserts
  • The date and time of the event

Every quote is put together for your event. Give us your date and numbers, and we’ll check availability at the same time.

Is live paella right for your party?

A hog roast is great for meat lovers, but harder for vegetarians and vegans. Separate paella pans cover everyone. If you have a budget in mind, tell us, and we’ll suggest a menu to match. Even a simple menu can be a feast.

Why book with us

  • Tapas, canapés and desserts if you want them
  • A clear, itemised quote
  • Waiting staff and crockery on request
  • Cooking your guests will gather round to watch
