Whitfield parties: what to know

Whitfield is about 1 mile north of Dover, in Kent. Give us the address of your party in Whitfield, and we will plan access and set-up before the day. Whitfield is one of 922 places in Kent where we cook. You can also see our page for Canterbury, about 12 miles away.

Parks such as Old Park Hill usually need permission for cooking, so a garden or hired venue is frequently easier. If guests are coming by rail, the nearest station is Kearsney station, about 1.2 miles south-west. The Kent Downs National Landscape is within about 8 miles of Whitfield, so a garden party here comes with a lovely backdrop. Near the coast, within about 3 miles, seafood paella is a natural choice, and we always plan for wind.

Here we cover the CT16 postcode area, and we can cater your party anywhere in it. Streets in the area include Khartoum Square, Wheatsheaf Square and Alison Crescent, and we can cook for a party on any of them. Neighbouring places where we cater parties include Temple Ewell (1 mile south-west), River (1 mile south-west), Kearsney (1 mile south-west), Dover (1 mile south) and Lydden (2 miles west). Within a short drive, we also cover Canterbury (12 miles north-west), Folkestone (8 miles south-west), Ramsgate (13 miles north), Broadstairs (15 miles north-east), Deal (6 miles north-east) and Hythe (11 miles south-west).

Other landmarks nearby include Buckland Hospital (1.9 miles south) and Dover Transport Museum (0.7 miles south). The countryside around Whitfield includes Dover Western Heights.

  • Local schools include St Edmund's Catholic School (1.7 miles south)

Catering for every guest

Allergies and diets are taken seriously. Here’s how you can help:

  • Keep children and pets away from the burners
  • Ask guests about diets when you invite them
  • Give the neighbours a heads-up
  • Count adults and children separately

The cooking area stays tidy and safe, with space kept clear around the burners.

We can bring plates, cutlery and staff.

What paella party catering costs

These are the factors that matter most:

  • Parking and unloading
  • The number of people
  • How long we’re needed on site
  • Staff: cooks, waiting staff and bar staff

Live paella frequently compares well with a sit-down meal, as there’s no kitchen to hire and fewer staff to pay. Ask us for a quote.

What to tell us

You do not need every detail fixed to get a quote, but it helps to know:

  • Anything your venue supplies
  • Expected numbers
  • The date and rough timings
  • The address or venue name

We quote for each event separately, so the price fits what you actually want. For a quote, use our quote form.

Can I cook paella for a crowd myself?

DIY catering keeps costs down, but the host spends the party cooking. With live paella catering, you get the theatre without the work.

You can hire equipment and do it yourself, but there is shopping, prep and hours of cooking. A caterer handles all of that.

Whitfield: your questions answered

Do you cater in the Kent Downs National Landscape?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules; ask your venue. We will work to whatever the site needs.

What about events near the coast?

Yes, as long as we can shelter from the wind. Sea breezes cool the pan, so a windbreak, building or gazebo helps.

Can you cook in my back garden?

Many gardens work. We need level ground, clearance and access. A picture helps.

Do you do vegan paella?

Yes, and they’re popular with everyone. Each is cooked separately, with its own stock and utensils.

How much space do you need?

Level ground for the burners, pans and a table, in the open air or a ventilated covered area, plus the venue’s agreement to cooking.

Where do you cater?

London and the South East: Kent, Surrey, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight.

Is the paella gluten-free?

A gluten-free pan is no problem. Let us know about coeliac guests in advance so we take the right care.

Do you cater for children?

Paella is popular with children, especially a mild chicken one. Let us know numbers and ages.

Paella compared with other options

A hog roast is great for meat lovers, but harder for vegetarians and vegans. Paella covers everyone with separate pans. Travel, parking and access can affect the price, so it helps to tell us about your venue. The full price is confirmed before you book.

Why book with us

  • A clear, itemised quote
  • Crockery and waiting staff if you need them
  • Hot food served quickly from the pan
  • Live cooking, not reheated food

What happens on the day

On the day, we set up the burners and pans and start cooking the sofrito and stock. Once the rice goes in, it takes about 20 minutes, so the timing is planned around your event. A summer party in Whitfield stays light until about 9:15pm at midsummer, which gives a garden party a long evening. In late September it’s dark by about 7:00pm; add lights for the evening.

  1. It starts with your date, address, numbers and any diets.
  2. You get a menu suggestion and a clear price.
  3. On the day we arrive, set up our cooking area and start cooking.
  4. Guests gather round as it cooks, nibbling tapas if you’ve booked them.
  5. It is served from the pan, and we clear our area afterwards.

Getting ready for the day

  • Keep the cooking spot clear of fences, hedges and branches
  • Pick a flat, firm spot for us to cook
  • Send us final numbers and dietary needs in good time

Working with your venue

For big numbers, we plan pans and serving points to keep queues short, so everyone eats promptly. Let us know how long the food break is.

For repeat events, such as annual staff parties or seasonal fairs, let us know your dates early, so we can plan ahead.

Before you choose a spot

Before the day, we’ll agree where we cook. It needs to meet a few simple requirements:

  • Flat, firm ground for the cooking area
  • Clearance from fences, hedges, branches and anything flammable
  • Access for unloading near the cooking spot

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and we will say what we think before you book.
