Organising for someone else?

For big numbers, we plan pans and serving points to keep queues short, so guests are fed quickly. Tell us how long you have for food.

Events in public spaces, like parks, normally need permission. We’ll provide any information the landowner or council asks for.

Planning for every diet

We cater for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests. To get it right:

  • Collect dietary needs with your invites
  • Give separate numbers for children
  • Plan a covered spot for wet weather
  • Ensure most people can sit to eat

Booked staff help serve and clear.

Add bread, salad and lemon.

Paella compared with other options

Ordering in is easy but forgettable. Live paella gives guests a show. The price depends on your guest numbers, the menu and how many courses you choose, along with staff, extras and travel. Every event gets its own quote.

Why Sturry hosts choose us

  • Food that becomes part of the entertainment
  • Fast service from the pan
  • Everything cooked fresh at your event
  • Crockery and waiting staff if you need them

DIY paella versus live catering

Hiring a pan and burner is one option, but there’s shopping, prep and hours of cooking. A caterer handles all of that.

A DIY paella party works for small groups. For larger numbers, mixed diets or a wedding, a caterer takes the pressure off, and keeps vegetarian and allergy-safe pans separate.

Hosting a paella party in Sturry

Sturry is about 3 miles north-east of Canterbury, in Kent. Wherever your party is in the CT2 area, we’ll come to your venue or garden. We cater in all 922 towns and villages across Kent.

Christenings and naming days often start at a local church such as St Nicholas' Church, with a paella lunch at home or in a hall afterwards. Thinking of a party in Chequer's Wood and Old Park? Cooking in a public park typically needs permission from the council or landowner, so check first. Near the coast, within about 5 miles, seafood paella is a natural choice, with shelter from the breeze planned in.

We cater parties across CT2 and the streets around it. From High Street, Park View and Link Road or a nearby road, we’ll bring the pans to you. If your venue is just outside Sturry, we also cover Broad Oak (1 mile west), Westbere (1 mile east), Calcott (1 mile north), Hersden (2 miles east) and Hicks Forstal (2 miles north). Larger places within reach include Canterbury (3 miles south-west), Margate (12 miles north-east), Dover (14 miles south-east), Folkestone (15 miles south), Ramsgate (13 miles east) and Broadstairs (14 miles east).

Nearby you’ll also find Canterbury Roman Museum (2.6 miles south-west) and St Martins Hospital (2.1 miles south). Not far away are West Blean and Thornden Woods.

  • Nearby schools include Spires Academy (1.1 miles east) and Frank Montgomery School (1.2 miles east)
  • Nearby, you will find The Swan Inn (under half a mile south)

What affects the price in Sturry

There is nothing hidden: the quote reflects:

  • Plates, cutlery and glassware
  • How many staff you need
  • Travel, parking and access
  • Chicken, vegetable or premium seafood

Travel, parking and access can affect the price, so it helps to tell us about your venue. The full price is confirmed before you book.

What to tell us

You don’t need everything decided to ask for a quote, but these help:

  • The date and rough timings
  • Anything your venue supplies
  • Where the event is
  • A picture of the space, if you can

Getting a quote is simple: share your date, venue, numbers and diets. We will send a clear, itemised quote.

The process

Service is quick: we serve straight from the pan, so even a long queue moves. Afterwards we clear our cooking area away. Sunset in Sturry is about 8:45pm in late May and 9:15pm in late June. After dark, the cooking area needs good lighting.

  1. First, we check the date and the space.
  2. You pick paellas, tapas and desserts.
  3. The burners go on and the sofrito starts.
  4. The rice goes in and your guests gather round.
  5. It is served hot, and we clear away afterwards.

Before we arrive

  • Arrange a covered spot for wet weather
  • Let us know who to talk to on the day
  • Make sure the spot is clear of anything flammable

Before you choose a spot

Most outdoor spaces and many venues work for live paella, but a few things matter:

  • Send a picture of the garden so we can check
  • Flat, firm ground for the cooking area
  • Good ventilation: outdoors, or an open-sided cover

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

Sturry questions

Can you cater a reception after a service at St Nicholas' Church?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall where we can cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is normally elsewhere. Tell us where the reception will be.

Can you cook in Chequer's Wood and Old Park?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, normally the council. Ask them first, and we will send any information they need.

Can you do gluten-free paella?

We can, if you tell us in advance. The rice is gluten-free, but stocks and chorizo can contain gluten, so we cook a gluten-free paella separately.

Who clears up?

We clear our cooking area away when service is finished. Waiting staff can clear tables if you book them.

Will the neighbours notice?

Less smoke than a barbecue, more smell, and it is a good smell. Let the neighbours know.

Do you cater for vegetarian guests?

Yes, and they’re popular with everyone. They have their own pans, stock and spoons.

Can you set up in a small garden?

Many gardens work. We need a level spot, clearance from anything flammable and reasonable access. Send us a picture.

Can you cook in the rain?

Rain does not stop us, as long as there is a ventilated cover. We’ll talk it through before the day.
