FAQs for Sandhurst

Do you cater in the High Weald National Landscape?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules; ask your venue. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

Which station should guests use for Sandhurst?

Robertsbridge station, about 4.9 miles south-west of the centre.

Do you cater for children?

Of course. Children usually love a plain chicken paella. Include children in your numbers.

Can you cater at a hired venue?

Typically, if there’s outdoor space to cook. Ask the venue about live cooking.

How long does the paella take?

We get there in good time to set up. The rice itself takes about 20 minutes, timed around your event.

Do you clear up afterwards?

We take our equipment and leave the cooking area tidy. Table clearing is available with waiting staff.

When should we book?

Early, particularly for summer Saturdays. Ask about your date even if it’s soon.

Can you supply crockery?

We can. Tell us what you need and we’ll include it in the quote.

Cook it yourself or book a caterer?

Hiring a pan and burner is one option, but there’s shopping, prep and hours of cooking. We take care of all of it.

Not sure whether to cook yourself or book a caterer? Think about numbers, diets and how much you want to enjoy the day. We’re happy to give you a quote to compare.

Is live paella right for your party?

For a party that feels a little special without being formal, live paella fits perfectly. The cost per head typically falls as numbers rise, since the set-up is much the same either way. Give us your numbers and we’ll quote.

Prices and what affects them

Every event is priced individually, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Travel, parking and access
  • Extra courses such as canapés, tapas and dessert
  • Staff: cooks, waiting staff and bar staff
  • Guest numbers

There is no one-size-fits-all price for live paella. A garden party lunch and a full wedding menu are very different jobs. Your quote spells it all out.

Getting an accurate quote

The more we know about your party, the better we can plan. Please include:

  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal and allergy numbers
  • The courses you’d like
  • The venue or postcode
  • Anything your venue supplies

Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many guests, along with any dietary needs, and we’ll reply with a menu suggestion and a quote. Just send us your details through our quote form.

Hosting a paella party in Sandhurst

Sandhurst is about 11 miles north of Hastings, in Kent. Parties in Sandhurst are planned around your venue and timings: a quote, a plan and live cooking on the day. Sandhurst is one of 922 places in Kent we cover. We cook right across the region, from Sandhurst to Canterbury (about 28 miles away).

Christenings and naming days often start at a local church such as Mission Church, with a paella lunch at home or in a hall afterwards. Historic houses near Sandhurst include Great Dixter (2.4 miles south-east). If you are hiring a historic venue for a big birthday, check its rules on outside caterers first. The High Weald National Landscape is within about 5 miles of Sandhurst, so a garden party here comes with a lovely backdrop.

This part of Kent takes in TN18. Local streets include Bodiam Road, Poundfield Road and Queen Street; a party at home on any of them works well with live paella. Close by, we cover parties in Sandhurst Cross (1 mile south-west), Linkhill (1 mile east), Four Throws (2 miles north-west), Little Conghurst (2 miles north-west) and Bodiam (2 miles south-west). Planners, venues and businesses

For larger events, we plan the number of pans and serving points around your timings, so everyone eats promptly. Let us know how long the food break is.

Hosting a party at home? Send us a photo of the garden and tell us about access, and we will let you know if live paella is a good fit.

Dietary needs and planning tips

Few dishes handle mixed diets as well as paella, because each paella is cooked in its own pan. A few tips:

  • Add a diet question to the invitation
  • Tell us how many children are coming
  • Warn the neighbours
  • Keep children and pets away from the burners

The cooking area stays tidy and safe, with a clear space around the burners.

Churros with chocolate are a hit with children and adults.

Before you choose a spot

No two venues are the same, so we ask about the space before we confirm. Generally, we look for:

  • Agreement from the venue or landowner to cook on site
  • Level ground for the pans and burners
  • Outdoor space or a ventilated gazebo

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

How the day works

Your timings come first. If speeches run late or the photos take longer, we hold the paella at the right stage so it’s served at its best. At midsummer, it’s light in Sandhurst until about 9:15pm, so a garden party can run well into the evening. In late September it is dark by about 7:00pm; add lights for the evening.

  1. It starts with your date, address, numbers and any diets.
  2. We suggest paellas and extras and send a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive, set up our cooking area and start cooking.
  4. The paella cooks while your guests chat, with any tapas served first.
  5. We serve from the pan and clear our cooking area away when we are done.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know who to talk to on the day
  • Tell us where to park and unload
  • Tell us when you want to eat
