Should I cook it myself?

If you do cook yourself, test the pan and burner together beforehand, have hot stock ready, and leave the rice alone once it’s in. Keep a clear zone around the burner.

Cooking paella for a crowd yourself is possible, but it is harder than it looks. Large pans need the right burners, and getting the rice right for dozens of people takes experience. Our guide to cooking paella for a crowd explains how.

Organising for someone else?

Throwing a party at home? Send a picture of the space and tell us about parking, and we’ll let you know if live paella is a good fit.

If you are organising for someone else, whether you are a planner, an office manager or an event organiser, we will work directly with you and the venue. It keeps things simple.

What we need at the venue

No two venues are the same, so we ask about the space when you contact us. In general, we need:

  • Confirmation that open cooking is allowed
  • Parking close enough to carry equipment
  • Clearance from fences, hedges, branches and anything flammable

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

What happens on the day

Watching it cook is half the fun. We start with the sofrito, add the stock and saffron, then spread the rice across the pan and leave it alone to cook while your guests chat. A summer party in Peel Common stays light until about 9:20pm at midsummer, which gives a garden party a long evening. By late September sunset is around 7:10pm, so plan festoon lights for later parties.

  1. We check your date and the space.
  2. You pick paellas, tapas and desserts.
  3. We set up the burners and start the sofrito.
  4. In goes the rice, and guests gather.
  5. We serve hot and tidy our area afterwards.

Catering for every guest

With a little notice, every diet is easy. Our advice:

  • Ensure most people can sit to eat
  • Ask guests about diets when you invite them
  • Keep a clear zone around the cooking area
  • Let the neighbours know

We arrive before your guests to set up, so the cooking is under way as people arrive.

Tapas and nibbles while the paella cooks keep guests happy.

Why choose live paella in Peel Common?

Unlike a barbecue, paella is ready at once, so nobody waits for the next batch. And nobody is stuck at the grill. Comparing caterers? Look at what each quote includes: staff, crockery, sides, travel and VAT. Our quotes spell it all out.

Take a look at How we price Or What paella catering costs.

What affects the price in Peel Common

Here’s what makes the biggest difference to the price:

  • The number of people
  • Plates, cutlery and glassware
  • How many staff you need
  • The paellas you choose

Larger events typically cost less per head, since the set-up is much the same either way. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.

What to tell us

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what to include:

  • A photo of the space, if you can
  • Anything your venue supplies
  • Roughly how many adults and children
  • The venue or postcode

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote: venue, timings, courses and extras. When you are ready, use our quote form.

Peel Common questions

Do you come out to small places like Peel Common?

No, we cook in small places too. Let us know about access and parking.

Can you cater a reception after a service at Peel Common Mission Church?

Yes, at a garden, marquee or venue nearby with a suitable spot to cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is usually elsewhere. Send us the reception address.

Do you cater in Peel Common?

Yes, we do. We cook at events in Peel Common and across Hampshire. Send us your date to check availability.

Do you cook inside?

Only in a suitable, well-ventilated area with the venue’s permission. Most events have us cooking outside or in a doorway or courtyard.

What about pudding?

We can add a dessert. Let us know if you’d like one in your enquiry.

How long does the paella take?

We arrive well before serving to set up and start the stock. The rice itself takes about 20 minutes, and we time it to your schedule.

Will the neighbours notice?

Less smoke than a barbecue, more smell, and it’s a good smell. Let the neighbours know.

Can you set up in a small garden?

Frequently, yes, if there is a level spot clear of fences and trees. Send us a picture of the space.
