Why live cooking beats a buffet

Home-made buffets take ages and sit out for hours. Paella is cooked fresh and served hot. Live paella often compares well with a sit-down meal, as there’s no kitchen to hire and fewer staff to pay. We will send you a quote.

What you get with us

  • Served hot, straight from the pan
  • Live cooking, not reheated food
  • Sangria, plus bar staff for your own drinks
  • A clear, itemised quote

DIY paella versus live catering

Plenty of people try cooking paella for their own party. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather be with your guests, we will do the cooking.

If you do cook yourself, test the pan and burner together beforehand, have hot stock ready, and leave the rice alone once it is in. And keep children and pets well away from the burner.

Events we cater in Hale Street

One big dish beats lots of fiddly ones, and there is little waste.

Live paella works for big and small events alike. Common bookings include:

  • Celebrations of life
  • Retirement celebrations
  • Big birthdays
  • Street parties and neighbourhood get-togethers

Historic houses near Hale Street include Old Soar Manor (4.4 miles north-west). Grand settings like these often have strict catering rules, so for most parties a garden or hired hall is simpler.

What to look for in a quote

  • Allergen information for each dish
  • How many staff are coming, and for how long
  • A clear list of what’s included
  • Plates, cutlery and napkins, or disposables

Choosing a paella caterer

The process

Once the rice is in, we don’t stir it. That’s what gives paella its separate grains and crispy base. Your guests will smell it before they see it. A summer party in Hale Street stays light until about 9:15pm at midsummer, so a garden party can run well into the evening. By late September sunset is around 7:00pm, so plan festoon lights for later parties.

  1. Send us the date, the address, numbers and diets.
  2. We suggest a menu and confirm a quote.
  3. On the day, we set up and get cooking.
  4. Your guests watch the paella cook, with tapas first if you’ve chosen them.
  5. We serve from the pan and clear our cooking area away when we are done.

Getting ready for the day

  • Confirm numbers and diets before the day
  • Make sure we can park close by to unload

Hale Street: your questions answered

Can you cater a reception after a service at Church of the Holy Trinity?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall where we can cook. Live cooking normally happens at the reception venue, not the church. Send us the reception address.

Do you come out to small places like Hale Street?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and parking.

What if the weather’s bad?

We need a covered spot, such as a gazebo, marquee or open-sided barn with good ventilation. We’ll agree a wet-weather plan with you.

Can you set up in a small garden?

Often, yes, if there’s a level spot clear of fences and trees. Send us a photo of the space.

How early should we book?

Early is best, but ask even if it is soon. We’ll check availability right away.

Can you cater a party at a village hall?

Typically, if there is outdoor space to cook. Check the venue allows live cooking.

Do you cater for children?

Of course. A simple chicken paella goes down well with children. Include children in your numbers.

Do you cater for vegetarian guests?

Of course. Vegetarian and vegan paellas are cooked in separate pans, alongside the meat and seafood pans.

About the dishes

Churros

Sugary churros with chocolate, a sweet finish.

Vegetable paella

A proper vegetable paella, not an afterthought, with peppers, beans and artichokes.

Prices and what affects them

Each event is quoted on its own, and the price depends on a few things:

  • How many staff you need
  • The paellas you choose
  • Guest numbers
  • Starters, canapés and desserts

Travel, parking and access can affect the price, so it helps to tell us about your venue. Everything is confirmed in writing.

Getting an accurate quote

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. Here’s what to include:

  • Roughly how many adults and children
  • The date and time of the event
  • Whether the venue has crockery or staff
  • A photo of the cooking space, if it is a garden or field

Not sure what you need yet? No problem: give us the basics about your party, and we will make suggestions. To start, fill in our quote form.
