Questions from West End

Which station should guests use for West End?

Southampton Airport Parkway station, about 1.8 miles north-west of the centre.

Can you cook in Itchen Valley Country Park?

Only if the landowner, generally the council, allows it. Ask them first, and we will send any information they need.

Can you cater for vegetarians and vegans?

Of course. Vegetarian and vegan paellas are cooked in separate pans, alongside the meat and seafood pans.

Do you bring everything you need?

We bring all the cooking equipment. Let us know what your venue has, like tables or crockery.

What happens if it rains?

We need a covered spot, like a gazebo or open-sided marquee. We plan for rain with you in advance.

Can you supply plates?

If you need them, yes. Crockery, cutlery and napkins, or good-quality disposables are available.

Is live paella good for a large crowd?

Yes. Large pans and fast service from the pan make it well suited to crowds.

What space do you need to cook?

A level space for the pans, burners and a serving table, in the open air or a ventilated covered area, plus the venue’s agreement to cooking.

About our paella catering in West End

Live paella catering means we bring the pans, burners and fresh ingredients to your event and cook in front of your guests. Once it is ready, we serve it hot from the pan. Whether it is retirement and leaving parties and anniversary celebrations, we can cook paella Valenciana, black rice and seafood paella for your guests.

There may be a hall or club near West End if your garden is small; live paella can work at any of them, given permission and outdoor space. Every guest is catered for, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal included, with each paella cooked in its own pan and clearly labelled.

Dietary needs and planning tips

We cater for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests. To get it right:

  • Send allergies to us in writing
  • Tell us what else is being served
  • Give us separate numbers for children
  • Flag any coeliac guests, not just gluten-free preferences

Once the rice is in, it needs about 20 minutes, so we start it at the right moment for your event. If plans change, tell us and we’ll adjust.

Bread, salad and lemon go well alongside and suit guests who aren’t big rice eaters.

What’s in the pans

Mixed paella

Chicken and seafood together, for guests who want a bit of everything.

Vegetable and vegan paella

The vegetable pan is a dish in its own right: artichokes, beans, peppers and saffron, cooked in its own pan.

Perfect for your event in West End

It suits relaxed, sociable events, where guests can mingle while it cooks before sitting down to eat.

Whatever you are celebrating in West End, live paella can be the centrepiece. We regularly cater:

  • Garden parties and summer barbecues
  • Engagement and anniversary parties
  • Family celebrations and christenings
  • Wedding breakfasts and evening food

For a christening or wedding at a church such as Church of St James, a paella lunch or reception nearby is an easy way to feed everyone.

How to compare caterers

Space, weather and the venue

We cook in large pans over gas burners, so the cooking area needs a little planning. Here’s what we look for:

  • Parking close enough to carry equipment
  • A safe distance from anything that could catch
  • Level ground for the pans and burners

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and we’ll say what we think.

What we offer

  • Black rice (arroz negro)
  • Vegetable paella
  • Mixed paella
  • Seafood paella
  • Paella Valenciana
  • Vegan paella
  • Chicken & chorizo paella

What happens on the day

Once the rice is in, we don’t stir it. That is what gives paella its separate grains and crispy base. The smell normally draws people over. Evenings in West End stay light until about 9:25pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:10pm; once it is dark, we need light to cook and serve by.

  1. Get in touch with the basics: when, where and how many.
  2. Expect a menu idea and a clear, itemised price.
  3. Closer to the day, we confirm timings and the cooking spot.
  4. We set up, cook from scratch and keep an eye on your timings.
  5. We serve, then leave our area tidy.

Getting ready for the day

  • Give us your final numbers and diets
  • Give us a contact for the day
  • Have a gazebo or cover ready if rain is likely

West End: venues, travel and local tips

West End is about 2 miles east of Southampton, in Hampshire. Whether your event is in the middle of West End or on the outskirts, paella catering works the same way: live cooking, separate pans for every diet and a clear price. We cover 683 places in Hampshire, from the larger towns to small villages.

If you’re organising a summer fair for a school like Saint James' Church of England Primary School, a paella stall is a crowd-pleaser. Nearby historic houses include South Stoneham House (1.7 miles west) and Southampton Tudor House and Garden (3.6 miles south-west). Historic venues frequently limit cooking, so ask early if you’re booking one. The coast is within about 4 miles of West End, so a seafood pan is a popular choice. Sea breezes can be strong, so we plan a sheltered cooking spot.

Here we cover the SO30 and SO18 postcode area, so your event can be anywhere in it. From High Street, Hatch Mead and Glenlea Close or anywhere nearby, we’ll bring the pans to you. For events just outside West End, we cover Chartwell Green (1 mile west), Harefield (1 mile south), Townhill Park (1 mile west), Midanbury (1 mile west) and Mansbridge (1 mile north-west). We also cook in nearby towns such as Winchester (9 miles north), Gosport (12 miles south-east), Eastleigh (3 miles north), Fareham (8 miles south-east), Horndean (14 miles east) and Totton (7 miles west).

Nearby you will also find Netley Castle (3.7 miles south) and Marlands Shopping Centre (3.3 miles south-west). The countryside around West End includes Netley Common.

  • Nearby schools include Woodlands Community College (0.7 miles south) and The Gregg School (0.8 miles west)

How we price paella catering

There is nothing hidden: the price is based on:

  • How many courses
  • Travel, parking and access
  • How long we are needed on site
  • How many staff you need

Live paella frequently compares well with a sit-down meal, as there is no kitchen to hire and fewer staff to pay. Ask us for a quote.

What to tell us

When you get in touch, it helps to tell us:

  • Roughly how many adults and children
  • Diets and allergies you know about
  • Whether the venue has crockery or staff
  • Whether you want canapés, tapas or desserts

Thinking about paella catering for your event in West End? Tell us what you have in mind and we’ll reply with a menu and a clear price. Just use our quote form.

Organising for someone else?

If your event is in a public space, such as a park, check what permission you need first. We can send whatever the landowner or council needs from us.

For repeat events, such as annual staff parties or seasonal fairs, let us know your dates early, so we can plan ahead.

Can I cook paella for a crowd myself?

You can hire equipment and do it yourself, but you will still need to source ingredients, prep and cook for hours. We take care of all of it.

Doing it yourself saves money, but the host ends up stuck at the stove. With live paella catering, you get the theatre without the work.

  • Cooked live in giant pans at your event
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal options
  • Paella, tapas, canapés and desserts
  • Sangria, bar staff, crockery and waiting staff
