Paella catering in Upper Wield, cooked live

Paella is generous food: huge pans, saffron colour and a toasted crust that everyone fights over. It makes the food an event in itself. We’re frequently asked to cater big birthdays and company summer parties, with vegetable paella, black rice and vegan paella.

Somewhere as small as Upper Wield, a garden or field is frequently the venue. Country lanes and long drives are no problem if we know about them, and a firm spot near where we park makes set-up easier. Every guest is catered for, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal included, with each paella cooked in its own pan and clearly labelled.

How it works

Watching it cook is half the fun. We start with the sofrito, add the stock and saffron, then spread the rice across the pan and leave it alone to cook while your guests chat. In Upper Wield, the sun sets at about 9:25pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, so summer evening events are usually served in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 4:00pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.

  1. First, tell us about your event.
  2. We suggest paellas and extras and send a clear quote.
  3. Timings, access and the cooking area are agreed in advance.
  4. On the day, we set up and cook in front of your guests.
  5. It’s served straight from the pan, and we clear our area afterwards.

What affects the price in Upper Wield

Your quote will be clear and itemised. The main things that affect it are:

  • Timings and hours
  • Distance and access to the venue
  • Waiting and bar staff
  • Guest numbers

Premium seafood costs more than chicken or vegetables, so the menu you choose affects the price. Tell us your budget and we’ll suggest a menu.

What to tell us

These details help us quote quickly:

  • Expected numbers
  • Whether the venue has crockery or staff
  • Whether you want canapés, tapas or desserts
  • A picture of where we’d cook

We quote for each event separately, so the price fits what you actually want. For a quote, fill in our quote form.

Can I cook paella for a crowd myself?

DIY catering keeps costs down, but the host spends the party cooking. Booking us means you get the show without the stress.

Some hosts like to cook themselves. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather be with your guests, we’ll do the cooking.

For event organisers in Upper Wield

For big numbers, we plan pans and serving points to keep queues short, so everyone eats promptly. Let us know how long the food break is.

Wedding planners and venue coordinators are welcome to contact us directly, and we will keep you updated on timings and set-up.

What’s in the pans

Paella Valenciana

In Valencia, the recipe is fiercely debated. The traditional pan has chicken, flat green beans and butter beans.

Seafood paella

A rich seafood stock with prawns, mussels and squid, cooked until the rice is golden. It is the pan people photograph.

Your questions about paella catering in Upper Wield

Can you cater a reception after a service at Church of St James?

Yes, at a garden, marquee or venue nearby with a suitable spot to cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is usually elsewhere. Send us the reception address.

Is Upper Wield close to London?

About 50 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

Where do you cater?

We cover London and the South East, including Hampshire. See all areas.

Can paella be the only main course?

It is a full meal on its own. Many hosts add tapas first or dessert after.

What happens if it rains?

A covered, ventilated spot keeps us cooking in the rain. We will make a plan B with you.

What seafood can we have?

We will suggest seafood to suit your menu and budget. Premium shellfish can be added.

Can we add tapas or canapés?

Yes, and it is a popular combination. Tapas first, paella to follow.

Do you do vegan paella?

Yes, and meat eaters frequently go back for seconds. They have their own pans, stock and spoons.

Diets, allergies and planning

Allergies and diets are taken seriously. Help us by following these steps:

  • Plan seating for most guests: paella is easiest eaten sitting down
  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • Choose two or three paellas so every guest has a choice
  • Ask for labels on each pan

Any staff you book serve and clear, so you can enjoy your guests.

Add canapé tapas with the drinks or table tapas as a starter as the rice cooks.

Why choose paella catering in Upper Wield?

It suits relaxed, sociable events, with guests mingling as it cooks before sitting down to eat.
