Before you choose a spot

The right spot keeps things safe and helps the paella cook evenly. We look for:

  • Flat, firm ground for the cooking area
  • Outdoor space or a ventilated gazebo
  • Access for unloading near the cooking spot

As a London location, Upper Ruxley is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and parking takes planning: let us know about permits, bays or off-street parking.

How our paella catering works in Upper Ruxley

Keep it simple, or go all out: just paella, or paella with tapas, desserts and drinks. We will recommend what fits your event. For community events and fairs and anniversary celebrations, we can cook paella Valenciana, vegan paella and seafood paella and more.

Gardens in London can be narrow, which is fine for live paella as long as there’s a level spot clear of fences and trees. In Upper Ruxley, the bigger question is parking near the house or venue. Every guest is catered for, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal included, with each paella cooked in its own pan.

In Valencia, the recipe is fiercely debated. The traditional pan has chicken, flat green beans and butter beans.

FAQs for Upper Ruxley

Could we have live paella in Foots Cray Meadows?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, usually the council. Check with them, and we’ll provide our paperwork.

Which station should guests use for Upper Ruxley?

Swanley station, about 1.7 miles south-east of the centre.

Can you serve tapas as well?

Yes, and it is a popular combination. Tapas first, paella to follow.

Do you cater for vegetarian guests?

Yes, and meat eaters often go back for seconds. They have their own pans, stock and spoons.

Where do you cater?

London and South East England: Kent, Surrey, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight.

Should we have more than one paella?

Most events have two or three: meat or mixed, seafood, and vegetable or vegan. We will suggest a split based on your guests.

Can we choose the seafood?

Tell us your preferences and we’ll suggest seafood options to suit your menu and budget. Premium options are available.

Is halal food available?

Yes, on request. Let us know your halal numbers, and we’ll cook a separate pan.

Working with your venue

If you run the same event each year, tell us your dates early, so we can hold the date.

Planning an event for a club, school or charity in Upper Ruxley? Paella is quick to serve to a crowd and suits most diets. Give us the details and we’ll suggest a plan.

Catering for every guest

We cater for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests. To make it work smoothly:

  • Choose two or three paellas so every guest has a choice
  • Request clear labels at the serving table
  • Let us know if anyone has coeliac disease
  • Count adults and children separately

A short rest after cooking helps, and that’s when we invite guests up.

Add canapé tapas with the drinks or table tapas as a starter while the paella cooks.

Can I cook paella for a crowd myself?

Hiring a pan and burner is one option, but you will still need to source ingredients, prep and cook for hours. A caterer handles all of that.

Cooking it yourself? Test your pan and burner first, keep the stock hot, and don’t stir once the rice goes in. Keep a clear zone around the burner.

Prices and what affects them

Two events with the same number of guests can cost different amounts, because of:

  • Waiting and bar staff
  • Chicken, vegetable or premium seafood
  • Starters, canapés and desserts
  • Distance and access to the venue

Comparing caterers? Look at what each quote includes: staff, crockery, bread and salads, travel and VAT. We itemise ours.

Details that help

The more we know about your event, the better we can plan. Please include:

  • The date and time of the event
  • Expected numbers
  • Diets and allergies you know about
  • The courses you’d like

Send us the date, your venue or DA14 postcode and guest numbers, along with any dietary needs, and we will reply with a menu suggestion and a quote. To get started, fill in our quote form.

How the day works

We cook over gas burners in wide, shallow pans. It needs a level spot with some shelter and good ventilation, which we agree with you beforehand. Around midsummer it stays light in Upper Ruxley until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening events are usually served in daylight. For winter events, when it’s dark by about 3:55pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.

  1. You tell us the date, venue, guest numbers and any dietary needs.
  2. You get a suggested menu and an itemised quote.
  3. On the day, we set up the burners and pans and get the stock going.
  4. The paella cooks in front of your guests, with tapas first if you’ve chosen them.
  5. We serve from the pan, then clear our cooking area away.

Preparing for the day
