Paella catering in Thorns Beach

DIY paella versus live catering

Doing it yourself saves money, but the host ends up stuck at the stove. With live paella catering, you get the theatre without the work.

You can hire equipment and do it yourself, but there is shopping, prep and hours of cooking. A caterer handles all of that.

Paella catering for your event in Thorns Beach

Paella was made for feeding a crowd: cooked in the open in a big, shallow pan and shared straight from it. That is exactly what we bring to your event in Thorns Beach. For weddings, from canapés to evening food and big birthdays, we will put together a menu of vegetable paella, vegan paella and paella Valenciana for your guests.

In a small place like Thorns Beach, events are typically in a garden, a field or a nearby hall. Country lanes and long drives are no problem if we know about them, and cooking close to where we can park helps. Your quote spells out exactly what’s included: the menu, the staff and any extras.

Paella compared with other options

If you want something different from the usual buffet or roast, live paella brings colour, aroma and a touch of Spain. Premium seafood costs more than chicken or vegetables, so your choice of paellas affects the total. We will suggest options to suit your budget.

What you get with us

  • Real theatre, not just catering
  • A clear, itemised quote
  • Separate pans for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests
  • Sangria, plus bar staff for your own drinks

Thorns Beach: your questions answered

Can you cook at venues in the New Forest National Park?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules; ask your venue. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

What about events near the coast?

Yes, as long as we can shelter from the wind. Wind is the main issue on the coast, so we plan shelter.

What happens if it rains?

Rain doesn’t stop us, as long as there is a ventilated cover. We will talk it through before the day.

When do you arrive?

That depends on your menu and numbers. We’ll agree arrival, cooking and serving times with you.

Do you have a kids’ option?

Children are welcome. Tell us how many and roughly how old, and we’ll plan a pan with them in mind.

Can you serve drinks?

We can make sangria, and provide bar staff to serve drinks you supply.

Who clears up?

Our cooking area is packed away and left clean. Table clearing is available with waiting staff.

Does paella work for big events?

Yes, that is what it is made for. We size pans and serving points to your guest list.

What paella catering costs

We will give you a clear, itemised quote. The main things that affect it are:

  • Distance and access to the venue
  • Waiting and bar staff
  • Chicken, vegetable or premium seafood
  • Plates, cutlery and glassware

The price depends on your guest numbers, the menu and how many courses you choose, plus any staff, crockery and travel. Every event gets its own quote.

What we need to know

The more we know about your event, the better we can plan. Please include:

  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal and allergy numbers
  • Whether the venue has crockery or staff
  • Whether you want canapés, tapas or desserts
  • Expected numbers

Send us the date, your venue or SO42 postcode and guest numbers, along with any dietary needs, and you’ll get a menu idea and a price. To get started, fill in our quote form.

Planning the cooking area

Most gardens and venues can host live paella, but there are a few things to check:

  • A safe distance from anything that could catch
  • Access for unloading near the cooking spot
  • Outdoor space or a ventilated gazebo

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

What we offer

  • Black rice (arroz negro)
  • Paella Valenciana
  • Seafood paella
  • Vegan paella
  • Chicken & chorizo paella
  • Vegetable paella
  • Mixed paella

The process

From set-up to serving, we look after the food, so you can enjoy your event. If you’ve chosen tapas or canapés, they go out first as the rice is cooking. In Thorns Beach, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. For winter events, when it’s dark by about 4:00pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.

  1. You tell us the date, venue, guest numbers and any dietary needs.
  2. We put together a menu and a clear quote.
  3. On the day we arrive in good time, set up and start the stock.
  4. The paella cooks in front of your guests, with tapas first if you’ve chosen them.
  5. It’s served straight from the pan, and we pack down afterwards.

How to prepare

  • Confirm the venue is happy with live cooking
  • Have a gazebo or cover ready if rain is likely
  • Pick a flat, firm spot for us to cook

Planning help

Diets, allergies and planning

A little planning makes sure everyone can eat. Try these:

  • Ask for labels on each pan
  • Plan seating for most guests: paella is easiest eaten sitting down
  • Pick a mix of paellas to cover every diet
  • Mention any other courses or food

Once everyone is fed, we clear our cooking area.

Need plates or staff? We can provide them.

  • Cooked live in giant pans at your event
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal options
  • Paella, tapas, canapés and desserts
  • Sangria, bar staff, crockery and waiting staff
