Paella catering for your event in The Hummicks

There’s something generous about paella: giant pans, saffron colour and a toasted crust that everyone fights over. It makes the food an event in itself. For anniversaries and engagement parties and fairs, fêtes and festivals, we’ll put together a menu of chicken and chorizo paella, seafood paella and black rice and more.

In a hamlet or village like The Hummicks, your own garden or a neighbour’s field can make a wonderful venue. Gates, verges and soft ground are worth mentioning when you enquire. Timings are planned around your event, whether that is speeches, a lunch break or a festival schedule.

About the dishes

Black rice

Black rice gets its colour from squid ink, traditionally with alioli. It makes a dramatic second seafood pan.

Vegetable and vegan paella

A slow sofrito, seasonal vegetables and a good vegetable stock make a paella that stands on its own. For vegans, the stock is plant-based.

Common questions in The Hummicks

Can you cook at venues in the New Forest National Park?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules; ask your venue. We will follow the site rules.

Can you cater a reception after a service at Church of the Blessed Virgin and Child?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall where we can cook. Live cooking normally happens at the reception venue, not the church. Tell us where the reception will be.

Do you cook inside?

Only in a suitable, well-ventilated area with the venue’s permission. Courtyards, doorways and terraces often work.

Do you cater for coeliacs?

We can, if you tell us in advance. The rice is gluten-free, but stocks and chorizo can contain gluten, so we make a separate gluten-free pan.

Is it really cooked live?

It is. We arrive with everything we need and cook on the day, then serve straight from the pan.

Do you take everything away?

We clear our cooking area away when service is finished. Clearing guests’ plates and tables can be added with waiting staff.

How much is live paella catering?

We quote for each event, based on what you actually want. Tell us your date and numbers for a clear quote.

Can you bring crockery?

We can. Let us know what you have, and we’ll quote for the rest.

Working with your venue

Planning an event for a club, school or charity in The Hummicks? Live paella feeds a crowd quickly and suits most diets. Give us the details and we’ll suggest a plan.

If you are organising for someone else, whether you’re a planner, an office manager or an event organiser, we’ll work directly with you and the venue. It saves passing messages back and forth.

Cook it yourself or book a caterer?

If you do cook yourself, test the pan and burner together beforehand, keep the stock hot, and don’t stir once the rice goes in. Keep a clear zone around the burner.

You can hire equipment and do it yourself, but you’ll still need to source ingredients, prep and cook for hours. A caterer handles all of that.

Planning for every diet

Every guest is catered for, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal included. To make it work smoothly:

  • Tell us about coeliac guests specifically
  • Give us separate numbers for children
  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • Choose two or three paellas so every guest has a choice

If you’ve booked staff, they’ll serve, clear and help keep things moving, so you can relax.

We can add sangria and bar staff for your own drinks.

The process

Your timings come first. If things run behind, we adjust the cooking so it’s still served fresh. Evenings in The Hummicks stay light until about 9:25pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:10pm; after dark, the cooking and serving areas need good lighting.

  1. First, tell us about your event.
  2. We suggest paellas and extras and send a clear quote.
  3. We agree timings, access and the cooking spot.
  4. We cook live on the day while guests watch.
  5. We serve from the pan, then pack down.

How to prepare

  • Tell us where to park and unload
  • Choose a level spot for the cooking area
