Paella catering in Priddy's Hard, cooked live

The cooking is half the fun. People drift over as the sofrito sizzles and the rice turns gold, and the aroma does the rest. On the menu are vegan paella, vegetable paella and chicken and chorizo paella, and we are frequently booked for big birthdays and weddings, from canapés to evening food.

In a rural place like Priddy's Hard, the setting does a lot of the work: a paella cooking in a garden or field feels right at home. Tell us about access and the ground. All the cooking equipment comes with us, and we clear our cooking area away afterwards.

Priddy's Hard questions

What’s the nearest station to Priddy's Hard for guests?

Portsmouth Harbour station, about 1 mile south-east of the centre.

Can you cater a reception after a service at Church of St Mary?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall where we can cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is normally elsewhere. Send us the reception address.

Do you provide plates and cutlery?

Yes, on request. Crockery, cutlery and napkins, or good-quality disposables can be added to your booking.

When do you arrive?

It depends on the menu and numbers. We’ll agree arrival, cooking and serving times with you so the paella is ready when you want it.

Does paella work for big events?

Yes. Big pans feed plenty of people, and service from the pan is quick.

What is live paella catering?

We arrive with pans, burners and ingredients, cook while everyone watches, and serve when you are ready to eat.

What does paella catering cost?

We quote for each event, based on what you actually want. Tell us your date and numbers for a clear quote.

Which paella is most popular?

That depends on who’s coming. A chicken or mixed paella is usually the most popular, alongside seafood and vegetable or vegan pans.

How it works

It is a relaxed, well-organised set-up. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, set up the pans and burners, and cook and serve without fuss. Evenings in Priddy's Hard stay light until about 9:20pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:10pm; once it is dark, we need light to cook and serve by.

  1. You share your date, numbers and venue.
  2. We plan a menu that covers every diet.
  3. We arrive early to set up the burners and pans.
  4. The sofrito, stock and rice go in, and guests gather to watch.
  5. We serve hot from the pan and clear our cooking area.

Before we arrive

  • Share the running order, including any speeches
  • Name one person we can ask on the day
  • Get the venue’s permission for cooking

How to get a price

Not sure what you need yet? No problem: tell us about the occasion and the guests, and we will suggest a menu. To start, send us your details through our quote form.

DIY paella versus live catering

You can cook paella for a crowd yourself, but it takes practice. A big pan needs a burner that heats it evenly, and getting the rice right for dozens of people takes experience. Our guide to cooking paella for a crowd explains how.

DIY catering keeps costs down, but the host spends the party cooking. Booking us means you get the show without the stress.

Planners, venues and businesses

If you’re planning an event on someone’s behalf, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a festival organiser, we’re happy to deal with you and the venue directly. It keeps things simple.

Events in public spaces, like parks, typically need permission. We will provide any information the landowner or council asks for.

What’s in the pans

Paella Valenciana

Valencians take their paella seriously. The traditional pan has chicken, flat green beans and butter beans.

Seafood paella

Prawns, mussels and squid in a rich fish stock, cooked until the rice is golden. It is the pan people photograph.

Occasions we cook for in Priddy's Hard

Paella is quick to serve and suits mixed diets, so it suits all kinds of occasions. It gives people something to gather round, too.

We can help if you are planning any of the following:

  • Retirement and leaving parties
  • Anniversary celebrations
  • Weddings and evening receptions
  • Staff parties and work lunches

If you’re organising a summer fair for a school like St Vincent College, a paella stall is a crowd-pleaser.

Questions to ask before you book

  • If the price includes VAT
  • The deadline for final numbers
  • What the price includes, item by item
  • How each diet is kept separate

Choosing a paella caterer

Planning for every diet

Most events have a mix of diets. To cater well for them:

  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • Tell us what else is being served
  • Make sure most guests can sit to eat
  • Send allergies to us in writing

On the day, you shouldn’t have to think about the food. We set up, cook and serve, and keep in touch with you or your venue about timings.

We can add sangria and bar staff for your own drinks.

Planning the cooking area

Safety and good cooking both depend on the spot we use. We need:

  • Outdoor space or a ventilated gazebo
  • Somewhere close to park and unload
  • A level, firm spot for the burners and pans

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise before you book.
