Paella catering for your event in Newington

Almost any venue with a level, ventilated spot will do: a garden, marquee, barn, courtyard or field. For christenings and family gatherings and retirement celebrations, we’ll put together a menu of seafood paella, paella Valenciana and mixed paella for your guests.

Somewhere as small as Newington, a garden or field is often the venue. Country lanes and long drives are no problem if we know about them, and cooking close to where we can park helps. Every pan is cooked in front of your guests, so it arrives hot and becomes part of the event.

Paella catering around Newington

Newington is about 2 miles north-east of Hythe, in Kent. Tell us where your event in Newington will be, and we’ll plan the journey and set-up before the day. Newington is one of 922 towns and villages in Kent where we cook. You can also see our page for Canterbury, about 13 miles away.

School fairs and fundraisers, for a school such as Folkestone, can book us as a food stall. If you are celebrating after a service at a church like Church of St Nicholas, live paella at a garden or venue nearby works well. The Kent Downs National Landscape is within about 5 miles of Newington, and country venues and gardens there suit live paella perfectly. Check your venue’s rules on vehicles and cooking. The coast is within about 3 miles of Newington, so a seafood pan is a popular choice. Coastal wind means we plan a sheltered spot.

Wherever your event is in CT18, CT20 and CT19, we can cook for your guests, from busy streets to quiet lanes. From School Lane, Newington Road and Boulevard D'erlanger or a nearby road, we will bring the pans to you. Planning for every diet

Allergies and diets are taken seriously. Help us by following these steps:

  • Make sure most guests can sit to eat
  • Give us separate numbers for children
  • Confirm allergies by email
  • Request clear labels at the serving table

You shouldn’t have to worry about the food on the day. We set up, cook and serve, and keep in touch with you or your venue about timings.

Add canapé tapas with the drinks or table tapas as a starter while the paella cooks.

Space, weather and the venue

Live paella is cooked over gas burners in large pans, so the cooking area needs a little planning. Here’s what we look for:

  • The venue’s permission for live cooking
  • Good ventilation: outdoors, or an open-sided cover
  • Parking close enough to carry equipment

Not sure about your space? Send us a photo and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

The process

Here’s how the day normally runs: we arrive, set up and start cooking, your guests watch the rice cook, and it’s served hot from the pan when you are ready to eat. In Newington, the sun sets at about 9:15pm in late June and about 7:00pm in late September, so summer evening events are usually served in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:50pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.

  1. First, tell us about your event.
  2. We suggest paellas and extras and send a clear quote.
  3. We agree timings, access and the cooking spot.
  4. On the day, we set up and cook in front of your guests.
  5. It’s served straight from the pan, and we clear our area afterwards.

Preparing for the day

  • Have a level space ready for the pans
  • Send us final numbers and dietary needs in good time
  • Leave space around the cooking area

The menu, dish by dish

Mixed paella

Paella mixta combines meat and seafood in one pan.

Paella Valenciana

In Valencia, the recipe is fiercely debated. The classic version is chicken, green beans and butter beans with saffron.

Paella compared with other options

Compared with a hog roast or barbecue, paella makes vegetarian, vegan and halal guests easier to cater for, because each paella has its own pan. Service from the pan keeps queues moving. Access and travel can make a difference to the cost, so it helps to tell us about your venue. Everything is confirmed in writing.

Why us?

  • Tapas, canapés and desserts if you want them
  • Waiting staff and crockery on request
  • Paella cooked from scratch on site
  • Real theatre, not just catering

Read Our pricing Or Our guide to catering costs.

Cook it yourself or book a caterer?

Cooking paella for a crowd yourself is possible, but it’s harder than it looks. Large pans need the right burners, and getting the rice right at scale is tricky. Read how to cook paella for a crowd.

Some hosts like to cook themselves. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather be with your guests, we will do the cooking.

What paella catering costs

There are no hidden charges: the price is based on:

  • Parking and unloading
  • Guest numbers
  • Whether you need crockery
  • Staff: cooks, waiting staff and bar staff

Seafood and premium ingredients cost more than chicken or vegetable paellas, so the menu you choose affects the price. We will suggest options to suit your budget.

What we need to know

When you get in touch, it helps to tell us:

  • A picture of where we’d cook
  • Expected numbers
  • Which courses you have in mind
  • The venue or postcode

Most quotes start with a few simple details: the date, where the event is, how many guests and any dietary needs. To send them, fill in our quote form.

Common questions in Newington

What’s the nearest station to Newington for guests?

Folkestone West station, about 1.8 miles east of the centre.

How far is Newington from London?

Roughly 59 miles from the centre of London, and well within our area.

Is halal food available?

Yes, on request. Let us know your halal numbers, and it is cooked separately.

How many different paellas?

Most events have two or three: meat or mixed, seafood, and vegetable or vegan. We’ll help you decide the split.

Is the paella cooked on site?

It is. We arrive with everything we need and cook it there and then, serving it hot from the pan.

Does paella work for big events?

Yes. Big pans feed plenty of people, and service from the pan is quick.

What space do you need to cook?

A level space for the pans, burners and a serving table, in the open air or a ventilated covered area, plus the venue’s agreement to cooking.

Do you cater for coeliacs?

We can, if you tell us in advance. Rice is naturally gluten-free, but stock and some ingredients may not be, so we cook a gluten-free paella separately.
