About our paella catering in Knightwood

A single cooking set-up can feed a crowd, there is very little waste, and the food arrives hot. That is why it works for so many events. We cook paella Valenciana, chicken and chorizo paella and mixed paella, and we are often booked for festivals, fairs and school events and garden get-togethers.

There may be a hall or club near Knightwood if your garden is small; any can work for paella, with permission and somewhere outside to cook. Every pan is cooked in front of your guests, so the food is hot, fresh and part of the occasion.

Knightwood: your questions answered

Which station should guests use for Knightwood?

Chandlers Ford station, about 0.8 miles south-east of the centre.

Can you cater a reception after a service at St Francis?

Yes, at a garden, marquee or venue nearby with a suitable spot to cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is generally elsewhere. Tell us where the reception will be.

How much paella per person?

We plan quantities from your guest numbers, timings and other courses, with a sensible margin. Accurate numbers help.

Do you have a kids’ option?

Children are welcome. Tell us how many and roughly how old, and we will plan a pan with them in mind.

Can you cook indoors?

Mostly outside or under an open cover, since the burners are gas. Some venues have suitable spaces; we’ll check with you and the venue.

What do you need at the venue?

A level space for the pans, burners and a serving table, in the open air or a ventilated covered area, plus the venue’s agreement to cooking.

How long does the paella take?

It depends on the menu and numbers. We agree the timings in advance.

Do you do starters?

Yes, it’s the classic pairing. Tapas go out first, then the paella.

Catering for every guest

Every guest is catered for, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal included. To get it right:

  • Have seats for most of your guests
  • Choose two or three paellas so every guest has a choice
  • Let us know about other food at the event
  • Count adults and children separately

On the day, you shouldn’t have to think about the food. We set up, cook and serve, and keep in touch with you or your venue about timings.

Bread, salad and lemon go well alongside.

Before you choose a spot

Live paella is cooked over gas burners in large pans, so the cooking area needs a little planning. These are the things we check:

  • Agreement from the venue or landowner to cook on site
  • Open air or a well-ventilated covered spot
  • Flat, firm ground for the cooking area

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.

Mixed paella

A mix of chicken and seafood, for guests who want a bit of everything.

Organising for someone else?

Hosting a party at home? Send a picture of the space and tell us about parking, and we’ll tell you honestly whether live paella will work.

Booking for a company? Tell us what your finance team needs, and we will explain how it works. We can work with your facilities team on access and timings.

Cook it yourself or book a caterer?

You can hire equipment and do it yourself, but there is shopping, prep and hours of cooking. We take care of all of it.

Plenty of people try cooking paella for their own party. Common mistakes are mismatched pans and burners, overfilling and stirring. If you’d rather enjoy the party, let us cook.

The process

It’s a relaxed, well-organised set-up. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, set up our cooking area, and get on with cooking and serving. In Knightwood, the sun sets at about 9:25pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, so summer evening events are generally served in daylight. For winter events, when it is dark by about 4:00pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.

  1. You tell us the date, venue, guest numbers and any dietary needs.
  2. You get a suggested menu and an itemised quote.
  3. On the day we arrive in good time, set up and start the stock.
  4. The paella cooks in front of your guests, with tapas first if you’ve chosen them.
  5. We serve it hot from the pan and clear our area when service ends.

How to prepare

  • Choose a level spot for the cooking area
  • Tell us when you want to eat
  • Give us a contact for the day

What paella catering costs

Every event is priced individually, based on a few main things:

  • The length of service
  • Distance and access to the venue
  • Crockery and cutlery, or disposables
  • Extra courses such as canapés, tapas and dessert

Live paella often compares well with a sit-down meal, because it needs no kitchen and fewer staff. Ask us for a quote.
