How our paella catering works in Halfway Houses

There’s something generous about paella: giant pans, saffron colour and a toasted crust that everyone fights over. It turns a meal into an occasion. Whether it is christenings and family gatherings and retirement celebrations, we can cook black rice, vegetable paella and seafood paella.

In and around Halfway Houses, gardens and local halls are common choices. If the road in is narrow, tell us so we can plan the van. We serve straight from the pan, so it’s hot and generous, and a queue moves quickly.

How to compare caterers

Planning live paella in Halfway Houses

Halfway Houses is about 1 mile west of Minster, in Kent. We cook at events in homes, gardens and venues in Halfway Houses and nearby villages. Halfway Houses is one of 922 towns and villages in Kent we cover. You can also see our page for Canterbury, about 16 miles away.

Thinking of a picnic-style party in Barton's Point Coastal Park? Public parks typically need permission from the council or landowner for cooking, so check first. For guests coming by train, the nearest station is Queenborough station, about 1 mile west.

Diets, allergies and planning

Most events have a mix of diets. To plan for them:

  • Give us separate numbers for children
  • Plan a meat, a seafood and a vegetable or vegan pan
  • Flag any coeliac guests, not just gluten-free preferences
  • Request clear labels at the serving table

Once everyone is fed, we clear our cooking area.

Crockery, cutlery and waiting staff are available if your venue does not provide them.

Where we can cook in Halfway Houses

Most outdoor spaces and many venues work for live paella, but a few things matter:

  • Confirmation that open cooking is allowed
  • Flat, firm ground for the cooking area
  • Parking close enough to carry equipment

Not sure about your space? Send us a picture and we’ll tell you honestly.

Can I cook paella for a crowd myself?

Weighing up DIY against a caterer? Consider your numbers, your guests’ diets and your own time. We’re happy to give you a quote to compare.

Plenty of people try cooking paella for their own party. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather be with your guests, we’ll do the cooking.

What happens on the day

The paella is cooked in giant, shallow pans over gas burners. It needs a level spot with some shelter and good ventilation, and we agree where that is before the day. Around midsummer it stays light in Halfway Houses until about 9:15pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:00pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. For winter events, when it’s dark by about 3:50pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.

  1. Start with the date, the place and the numbers.
  2. We come back with paellas to suit your guests, plus any extras.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm the plan.
  4. We set up, cook from scratch and keep an eye on your timings.
  5. Guests are served from the pan, and our area is cleared afterwards.

How to prepare

  • Plan cover in case of rain
  • Make sure we can park close by to unload
  • Choose a level spot for the cooking area

Dishes our guests love

Mixed paella

Paella mixta combines meat and seafood in one pan.

Vegetable and vegan paella

A slow sofrito, seasonal vegetables and a good vegetable stock make a paella that stands on its own. Vegan versions use plant-based stock.

Is live paella right for your event?

With a barbecue, food comes in waves. Paella is cooked as one big dish and served together. Extras such as tapas, desserts, sangria, staff and crockery are priced separately, so you only pay for what you want.
